“Athletes who are awarded a World Championship slot through the IRONMAN XC program are required to participate at the World Championship in the IRONMAN XC format.”

From what I can see this is $13,500 on top of the $9000 for a qualifying event

The cups!!! Oh, but the cups!!!

I liked the gaffa taped ipad on the treadmill!

Have you not seen the tour of his pain cave?
It is pretty incredible - I like the laundry bins and towel disposal units he has dotted around.

I was more into the litter on the Kona course when he was walking at a snails pace.

RE: Tom Rigby on the OA podcast, just re-listening to it.
And this one is for @Matthew_Spooner - he dropped his IM swim time from 75mins to 59mins in a year, just by doing 3 * 4km sessions per week and swimming with people that were a lot better than he was.
I’ve said on the swimming thread that it really is that simple.

@Poet thanks, need to get much more motivated to swim an extra day per week.

Swimming with faster people is my problem i.e. I’d have to find a group session that wasn’t logistically a PITA.

Yeah, I totally get that, but your swim is quite good.

I can swim with the local squad three days per week now, with the other three sessions solo and the other day with my daughter (but that doesn’t count)

Having had a quick listen to the OA podcast again, I looked up the ManTri training times - 0630 to 0800 and I pass both facilities on the way into Manchester, so if I go back there, then I’ll look to swim with them before work.

Not sure how to work on my bike???

I sometimes do the Man Tri 0630-0800 sessions, be prepared for a lot of pull, band and paddles! We have some very good swimmers in the club so you’ll definitely find people to push you. They are quite busy though, can be 10 per lane.

So long as there is little to no kick, I’ll be reet!
10 per lane sounds like good OW practice (sp?) to me

Tuesday or Friday with Coach Nick, guaranteed zero metres of kick :+1:

Six swims a week; are you training to be @Chriswim’s lead-out man?

Up to 7.4km, over 4 sessions, this week…two more club sets to go.

You’re definitely the only one swimming 6x/week over winter! I’m taking my own advice regarding increased frequency and thought I was doing well to get in 2-3x a week. Good on you if you’re confident you’ll keep similar motivation going for another 12 months. Plus at some point you will obviously need to build up to far longer sessions, not just frequency.

wattbike and usual FTP type sessions helped me lift FTP by 40W in 6 months this time last year, cycling 80-100km/week, average twice a week. Plan on doing a lot more this year though. As nice as you might find it being the triathlete who can actually swim, the MAMILS still fly past you.

Yep. I was the 72nd m35 out of the sea at Portugal. Was up to 19th by the end of the bike

Yeah, making the most of living behind the swimming pool (actual 60 seconds to walk there from my home “office”) at the moment, so it won’t continue.
I’m treating it as one of those “breakthrough” type things, where you plug away at it and BOOM, one day it just all clicks together.
MCR Marathon training starts on Dec 16th, so my ankles won’t be able to take the swimming and running from then.

I don’t like sessions over 2.4km solo, but can do 3.2km with the club.
Knocking out 4km at the lake shouldn’t be a problem come summer, so long as I can find a few clubmates willing to do proper training in the open water, instead of just ambling around aimlessly (which I am guilty of myself!)

I did my FIRST EVER WattBike FTP test in this exact week (w/c 15/10/2018) last year and managed a massive 241W, by 04/05/2019 it was 300W.
I much much prefer going to a gym to do the indoor bike sessions, but my local one doesn’t have WattBikes.
I tend to just eff around on YouTube when I’m on the turbo at home.

For me, if I can get out of the swim in 58 minutes and have a fairly decent W/kg, then I can hold onto a wheel (I am pretty sh!t as a lone cyclist, get bored and jack it in), conserve some energy and have a better run (which, whilst I am confident about, having some good run times, I’ve never had a run below 3:30 at an IM!)

That probably says more about your swimming Adam :yum:
