IMTalk

John and Bev are hanging up their mics. I still listen to this, I must have listened to every episode bar the odd exception. Off the top of my head, the blender test and peeing on the bike episodes were laugh out loud. Great chemistry and not one triathlon podcast has come close to the blend of childish humour and serious tri talk
I’ll miss it.

NO WAY!!!

Why? I stopped listening as I found it all a bit “samey” …

… there are only so many generic pros and training tips that you can listen to.

On the gravel ride at the weekend, we were just getting some food at the 1st stop. Two guys there “I was talking to Wardy the other day…”
I was thinking there’s loads of people called Ward, I work with a few, none related to each other. But yes they meant that Wardy.

he does get some good guests at times but unfortunately he doesn’t always let them speak . I do like “long form” interviews with prominent people in sport, coaches of S&C, swim, bike, run but IMTalk was more like a “daytime TV” type of show with mindless chat, news, coaching stuff and general bantz.

I’ve listened to half of todays show, its nearly 2hrs long though, and bottom line, John has another “interesting” opportunity, they earn nothing out of it anymore, its a labour of love and producing content is getting hard as most pros are doing their own things so not as easy to entice on, as well as if they did they’ve done 8 other podcasts already and the content is repetitive, and they’ve done to death coaching tips. Oh and its all video format now and that takes even longer to put together which they haven’t got time for along with trying to make it a profitable venture “trading” off the back of the pod.

not a good trait for a coach…

a number of people I know who deal with him says “hes more a salesman than coach” which whilst a disservice, I can see why they’d say that.

because it might offend salesmen?

Is Simon Ward that big a deal; isn’t he barely a legend in his own lunch time?

That Carl Jennings bloke though…

I haven’t listened to IMTalk for nearly 10 years probably; but I really liked the Legends of Triathlon interviews they did.

I’ve never listened to it. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever listened to any triathlon podcast. I listen to a lot of UK ultra podcasts but the pool of guests is pretty small and they seem to be on regular rotation.

I’ve been a listener of the show for about 16 years or so and only really skip the Christmas ones where they repeat old interviews. They’re the soundtrack to pretty much every long run I’ve done over the years.

Listening to them convinced me to go over to New Zealand in 2012 and do Challenge Wanaka (when it was a full distance) and then Epic Camp in 2014.

The only podcasts I listen to are IMTalk and ProTriNews.

They did a great job of selling NZ & hopefully get over there one year

I think they lost the love a few years ago which is when I stopped listening.

Legends in their own right though!
