I’m another who had a Parrot Beak Medial Meniscus tear found after an MRI following some serious mobility issues in 2017. At it’s best in the early days I couldn’t run or push off the pool wall, but some days I couldn’t walk properly or with any pace. On these bad days it was as if something was trapped between kneecap & tibia. On good days a dull ache with the feeling that it could become a bad day with little provocation.
I was put on the waiting list for an op but had physio as well & eventually over the period of a year it sorted itself out. This was all on the NHS & although at times I would gladly have forked out for the op - & my FC bless her had okayed this - I was lucky enough to refuse the offer when I was eventually offered a procedure.
First run for me in 6 weeks after tweaking something in the top of my right foot. Hasn’t impacted swimming or cycling in any way but only the last fortnight the swelling has gone and I’ve been able to walk about with no discomfort. Managed 2 painfully slow miles before I could feel it so just stopped and walked home.
No races in the diary and family holiday to Orlando in 5 weeks so not risking aggravating it!
Still sore actually. Nowhere near the level it was on Sunday but it’s still there grumbling away. Haven’t commuted by bike to work this week to give it a bit of rest but I’m on my feet all day anyway!
Haven’t had any bruising so I don’t think anything’s broken but the affected area is still tender…
Was going to give Parkrun a go Saturday but I’ll make a call on the morning
I should have finished that story so I will now.
I had an MRI ( my physio wasn’t happy to start a rehab program until this was done )
On the back of this I had a consultation with Mr Neil Hunt ( knee surgeon to the stars ).
No damage to the meniscus just a serious MCL strain. He said a pro footballer would be out for a couple of months, so it was quite bad. From there on it was a simple physio rehab program and taking it easy for a 3 months ( easy cycling and minimal running )
Realistically from now, I’d be looking at next year even if you don’t need surgery. Rushing back from injury is one of the basic mistakes we make as AG athletes.
Yikes - sounds scary although the usual internet sources seem to indicate that it is fairly common and will just clear out of your system in a few weeks
Quite a positive session with the physio today. She commented on how decent my body was after this race compared to usual! My normal weaknesses and tightness weren’t too bad.
Some locked up muscles in my SCM, clearly from gripping a bit too tight on my RHS in aero. That what not pleasant when the muscles were worked on!
Foot injury that i was worried about luckily seems to be part soft tissue bruising and part neural. It’s already improving, have had some massage on it and need to do some golf ball rolling. But another week or so off running and i am fine to get on a bike, just need to loosen my shoes.
So pretty happy with that. Just need to get off my fat ass and do something now!
Well this is not good. Meant to have a race tomorrow but about 6.30 just suddenly started shivering with stomach ache and my head feels really hot. In bed now. Parts of me are hot and parts are cold.
I think it’s the way Saturn do things. They tend to do looped courses, which means one aid station at HQ and it was a 7 hr timed, there are longer options that were more but the course is on public land.
Ive only done one of theirs before and from memory, it was a similar price a few years ago but at Greenham Common, so probably had a higher venue cost. I do remember the aid station being pretty well stocked though.
t was called ‘Frozen’ and the characters on the medal should have had a lawyer’s phone ringing n the distance!
