A couple of Aussie mates were in the tri ‘test team’. (I forgot what the term is but they didn’t get medals) way back for the Comm Games. They got told similar by the sounds of it.
Was that in India? they had similar worries but it was magically OK on the day
Are you asking me? I’m referring to the Comm Games in Oz, must’ve been the late 80’s early 90s I guess.
Wow the mixed pairs 10m Air Pistol is riveting…
(what’s with the music in the background?)
I have the rowing on in the background via Iplayer.
Triathlon wasn’t in the Delhi commonwealth games
that precisely
There’s no point arguing about the event should have been held elsewhere, Paris was always going to host as many events as they could (obviously not sailing, surfing etc) as it’s the Paris Olympics. If this came at a cost, so be it, it’s Paris.
WT had no real say in the location - Paris decided where it would be held and WT have to go along with it and rely on as many assurances as Paris can offer that the water would be good enough.
Just watching the MTB highlights on iPlayer. WTF. Pidcock group 40s down, cut to next shot, he’s back with with the leaders (group of 3). Who the hell edited that.
I hope they get their sh1t together for 2028.
It’s highlights. If you want to watch Pidcock work his way back to the front over three laps/30 minutes watch the whole thing
One for Whisk (or any rowers). When the commentators call the stroke rate how do they know that it’s changed so quickly? Is it calculated via some fancy s/w based on distance covered or something?
yep you are right and they dont have Marathon Swimming either so not sure what I’m thinking of. maybe it was the pollution in general. I’m getting old.
I have SR on my stopwatches for swimming. push button count 3 strokes and stop, it knows SR. Must be similar for rowing.
@JaRok2300 just watched the whitewater highlights; insane how they can throw those boats around. The Frenchman looked like he was doing it on FFWD. Amazing. Nuts to think they’re kneeling in those C1 boats.
That was brilliant, watched it yesterday.
Watched it live, definitely worth watching the whole thing.
He would have won very easily I think if he hadn’t punctured, would have just kept on ramping up the pressure until the French guy cracked.
Surfing is in Tahiti BTW so triathlon could easily have been held somewhere else. The French must have lakes somewhere (
) and could easily then cycle into Paris and run round something famous.
Yeah, can’t wait to see this kayak cross that’s new this time, it should be mental.
Let us introduce you to Kayak Cross the new event added to Canoe Slalom at the Paris 2024 Olympics (youtube.com)
Each boat will have a rate meter onboard somewhere and the coxswain in an 8 or the stroke man in any other boat will be able to see what they’re rating. It used to be as simple as a magnet under the seat running over a hard wired sensor on the bottom of the boat. I suspect that technology has moved on and they use accelerometers now ![]()
I guess for an event like this the stroke rate is beamed back to shore with the GPS tracking?
As Hammy says, you can get coaching stopwatches that you can take a stroke rate with, but I doubt if they’re doing it manually for 6 boats at a time.
Stroke rate is one of the key metrics for rowing. You would go out with a high stroke rate and then settle into a lower, longer rate. You then change the speed of the boat within the race by putting in pushes at higher rates
‘cos you can’t surf in Paris!! (or sail) read my comment earlier as to why the tri is in Paris.
I didn’t say the tri could be outside Paris … I said the swim could be in a lake rather than the Seine.
Given that what has happened was reasonably foreseeable, you would have thought that any competent organiser would have a contingency plan.
Cheers mate, very interesting. ![]()
