Blu trying to show a sense of humour over it

For the Olympic games, that strikes me as a really bad contingency. This isn’t IM Bolton or Outlaw; the world is watching…and judging.

I thought eJC meant they were in a boat exercising

its not just really bad, its unacceptable. Duathlon is a good sport (well for eJC but I wont judge  ) in it’s own right, but its not triathlon and, putting it mildly, it’s a poor show and makes the sport look amateur. Its like decathletes just doing 7 events because it starts to rain. Potentially it might be a good course to show Paris off, but there is no show if there is “no show”. Its not like its a shock, and whilst it was admirable to “clean up the Seine” it’s resulted in 1.2 billion down the drain and flushed back into a sewer of a river. Lets hope that magically the water is fine tomorrow and doesnt upset the tummies of a bunch of team relay athletes. could end up a quadrathlon swim shit bike run

After the test events last year, where most of the swims had to be cancelled (all para events and the MTR IIRC?) you’d maybe think the organisers might have considered that test to have failed

There is one upside to the Seine being polluted (I jest but …)

We had some ex-pat friends staying this weekend and I was having to endure a tirade of ‘UK is shit’ comments when Sharon mentioned how much more polluted the UK rivers and seas are than anything overseen by the EU.
It was with a wonderful sense of schadenfruede that I was able to mention the Seine.

Yeah I just watched it in iplayer for the first time, 13 min highlights. Absolute confusion, there he is, no he isn’t, he’s behind you, oh maybe not.

Farcical.

Something to ponder. BTF had been looking for a way of getting Tri into the inner cities and increasing participation. But face challenges of costs and facilities. If you poll triathletes as to the biggest barrier to Tri they will say the cost. If you poll non triathletes they will tell you that it is swimming.

For years I have argued that Duathlon is a way into multi sport. A pair of running shoes and a gym bike is all you need to take multi sport into the inner cities. Two bikes and a playground and you have a race.

When I funded athletes and events some 15-20 years ago, more people did the National Duathlon series than the triathlon series. Now you have to search quite far to find Duathlon on the WT and BTF websites. An opportunity lost.

They’d all be speaking German by now if it weren’t for the English speakers!

When we’re there next month, I just know about 6 words in I’m going to inadvertently switch to German  Mind you we are going to Vichy france…

when I first got into this my mates all said the same “the bike and run are easy”. Think about kids, a school field and you have a relatively safe race!

Great story
I never really watch any sprinting … it just doesn’t interest me.

Worth remembering that triathlons place at the Olympics is by no means secure.
