I think chances of triple gold are massively increased in a duathlon (not saying we have bad swimmers, just it takes away one of potential obstacles)

Wonder if they could move it to near Versailles or similar. Would be a real shame to lose the swim. There are plenty options around and enough time to sort it out.
ETA: or around any of the chateaux of the Loire valley. They’ve put a lot of other sports outside Paris. Even Marseille where they’ve got the sailing.

Most of France has had the same wet spring/early summer that we’ve had. A lot of the early season triathlons have been made duathlons because water quality is bad or rivers are flowing too strongly. The sun has come out blazing now. I think they’ve still got a bit of margin to turn it round between now and the event. So

Seems bonkers that there’s more talk about it being a Duo than there is about moving it somewhere else, given this has been a possibility all along.
If they really are staying in Paris no-swim, is it run-bike-run?

Never been a possibility. Too much money and time has been invested in the Paris venue. I know a couple of Brits working on the triathlon and open water swim events for the Paris organising committee at senior levels and there is no way anything will change for the venue. If it has to be a duathlon, then so be it. Sure, Paris will get criticised but let’s wait and see eh?? Rio had many swim doubts but went ahead; Tokyo had concerns about water quality and heat risk but went ahead - let’s hope Paris does.

Duathlon must be a slam dunk for GB. Not sure about the run credentials of our open water swimmers mind.

You would think so with Yee’s and Potter’s running but this is the Olympics and the bike leg could make a big difference

Just need some farmers to block the bike course with their tractors and turn it into a 10k run.

I think if it was just the individual race they’d get away with slightly dodgy water quality - athletes only get sick a few hours later. But with the relays it gets a bit risky. Can’t exactly eliminate the entire field of the relay in the individual events.
