As said the WR line is an actual ghost line from the splits. Means that in some events, like mens 200free, it often looks like people are on for a WR, but always fall away on the last 50m as Biederman finished crazily fast.
There’s a lot of talk about this pool being slow because of the reduced depth allowing waves to rebound, so that only affects people from the 2nd 50m onwards, and increasingly as the races goes on as it also contributes to fatigue.
ETA: Plus could just be different pacing strategies, especially in finals where it can all be for position. 200M free Hoogenband beating Thorpe back in… 2000? Or 2004? Was a great example of someone getting flustered at someone else’s tactics. Less common in swimming when you have your own lane, but it happens
What you are describing is the Arena games, non drafting on Zwift, short races, heats, finals, different formats.
WTCS have done some super sprint events with heats and finals. The courses are dependent on the venues that are prepared to pay dollar, and there aren’t many good ones to be honest.
What I’m describing is a 1500 m swim
A 40 k bike real … Zwift is for amateurs like us ( no drafting at all ) if that’s possible ?!
10 k run.
Be a great experiment but not sure the crowds would appreciate it?
Keep seeing clickbait headlines about the 200Bk DQ “little known rule” “left speachless” “hard done by British swimmer” ; no its a common well known rule that you must break the surface by 15m (except for Breaststroke) . He fucked up, he would have been pushing the limit.
Ive seen yanks moaning they dont double up lane ropes as well erm its not a 25yd splash and dash
I don’t recall ever seeing a pool with doubled up lane ropes - certainly never raced in one.
Saw that headline too. Such rubbish to drive the clicks.
Now THAT’s a race for the ages!
And then it was the 100 fs! Blimey!
I can’t fathom swimming 100m in those kind of speeds.
First WR of the games.
NCAA are doubled up but they race yd pools
Are those races ever available to watch over here?
Urgh Chinese swimmers can do one
Is that one for the PED thread
It did look like Chalmers didn’t congratulate him and gestured with a wink to someone over the other side of the pool - Popovici perhaps.
Get a bit on you tube, never live. Utter madness. All about UW as its still 15m rule! Makes me dizzy thinking about it
Allowing 15m under water in a scy pool?! If so, that’s hardly “swimming”!
3 strokes a length , one for the other thread. Its why Leon is so strong UW, he practices them every day. 1600yd free is crazy
