Interoception and exercise

Was listening to R4 talk about introception (accurate understanding of bodily sensations) last night and it got me thinking about the old training mantra of “listen to your body”.

It’s about ten minutes long in the middle of this:

There’s a variety of things discussed but it got me wondering about how our training and racing might be affected by misinterpreting signals about hunger, fatigue, thirst, exertion even. Also mood during races, which for me swings about quite a lot usually.

Anyone seen anything more specific to training and interoception?

Underwhelmed with that podcast. Only info I gleaned was that there’s a cat drawing exhibition at the Bethlem Royal Hospital which is on my list of parkrun venues.

Is a fascinating book…
