FOMO already. :slightly_frowning_face:

Probably depends on whether 2022 is during half term or the week before. I always like getting to Lanza on the Tuesday before the race, curry on the PdC strip on the first night, 3 morning course swims before the race, etc.

If I do 2022 it will be my first IM in M55-59 :open_mouth:

+1 for the Club Oceano apartments, stayed there 2014 and just about perfect.

It does seem ridiculous to be discussing it now with Mrs A but she says GO. Her and child can fly out for the weekend as she says they would want to watch. Now where’s the Fink spreadsheet? What could go wrong between now and then?

Bad memories of Club Oceano when I stayed there in 2013.
That’s where I saw City lose the Cup Final to Wigan.
Therefore it is jinxed I tell you … jinxed !!

Opposite for me, it’s where we were based when Aston beat Derby in the play-off final 2 a couple of years ago

Do you still have to schlep all the way to Club Le Santa for registration etc?

sure do

Take lots of water and a copy of War & Peace.

Wow, never looked at a map of the island before but that’s handy for registration :flushed:

We went in a bit blind/stupid the first year and got a taxi from PdC to La Santa, cost as much each way as car hire for a day, oops!

I have always registered at bike check in PDC, I usually fly in on Thursday evening so can’t get to CLS.

I email the organiser and get the OK from them. Take all kit Into town at lunchtime settle at cafe with family While they have lunch get registered come back to cafe do numbers and bags. Once the line for check in has subsided slide in and boom good to go.

I would be mine as well in 55-59

My last IM was when I was 53.

I’d do it. I tore my hamstring over lockdown but the upside is i had to cycle loads which was the one discipline I avoided lol. So now cycling is a breeze. Tentatively back running and now Ironman seems like a breeze as my one fear has been well and truly conquered. Took a holiday in Lanza last year and the roads looked so inviting.

Most roads are inviting. The infamous ‘donkey track’ road is most certainly not inviting. Proper bone shaker that, beautifully timed for later in the bike leg…

Yup, you always see someone picking themselves up from a dry stone wall after overcooking it (Paging DaveM  ).

You get to ride up the donkey track at the beginning of the ride now, so you get a good long look at what’s to come

Has anyone race experience of the difference between the old and newer amended course ?

I have a time on the older course but wondered how it might now compare - faster/ slower or nowt in it ?
