Ironman Lanzarote 2021

It’s on my list as a 2022 possible, especially if I can’t get into Wales.

I have a patchy 2014 attempt to shoot at…

Its the week before half term this year so Id need to blag it, and its not the time to be talking trips away from the family. Slots will all go while Im procrastinating and take the decision away from me. If not Ill reconsider in April if Im fit. And 2022 will be pencilled in now.

The vibe I’m getting is 2022 is where it’s at. TriTalk shared villa, bit of an IM, BBQ, booze, disco the night after.

Lets do this

2022 was going to be either IM France or Vitoria-Gastiez. Nice is easy logistically for me as I can get cheap accommodation near Nice and was going to do a DIY camp in the Spring there. But if there will be a TriTalk hit out at Lanza, that will be more fun. It’s not windy is it? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Nah, very little wind there. Flat as a pancake too

Reminds me of a conversation that I had with a couple of Americans at Club La Santa while waiting for the bus over to PDC for the practice swim. They’d arrived after dark the day before and slept in the taxi from the airport, so they were seeing the island for the first time that morning.

One of them commented that it seemed quite windy (it really wasn’t, by Lanza standards ) and her friend asked if the bike course was hilly

Would you really come all the way from the US to do an IM without doing any research at all about the course?

Mental. When I trained for it I watched a video of the entire course whilst on the trainer, having also rode large sections of it twice already

I’d love to race next year because race day is on my birthday again and I absolutely love the race, but I don’t think logistics are going to work for me this time and I’m not confident that travel will be back to normal again by next May.

2022 looks almost certain. My 50th birthday will be the day after the race (assuming it stays on the same weekend), so it’ll be my last event in my 40s and my first IM in M50-54 :sunglasses:

Sounds like one more to the party :white_check_mark:

I think that I will be too (48 at the mo).

My racing progression (as long as my Achilles sorts itself out and I start training again) is hopefully a half marathon next March, an Olympic distance next August and then would love IM Lanza in May ‘22.

We’re going to need a few villas at this rate.

I’d recommend oceanclubholidays.com the Club Oceana apartments are cheap, clean, convenient (5min walk to the start line), and friendly… you can also get a decent handful of them all located together, up to a dozen or so apartments. They also do an outstanding fried breakfast!

Easy to book too, with an English language website for direct booking and payments. I’ve stayed there 3 times now, and was due to for this years race, and they went out of their way to be helpful and flexible when it all got cancelled. Also completely relaxed about bikes in apartments, etc

That is good value :+1:t4:. Will have to see whether the family will be wanting to come or not and who is going out when.

The place I have been to for training camps do a fully catered IM week.

25m pool, secure bike storage etc. Its in Macher but the chap who runs has a couple of cars/vans and runs people down to the start line and for sea swims.
