Ironman Lanzarote 2021

I’m not sure that anyone is going from here. Maybe Matt S? I think most people deferred.

Are regular flights running to Lanza from the UK again?

Definitely think Spoons is still in

I’m still in. The start list is now available… bloody stacked field: In my AG, There are 3 athletes who have done sub 9h IMs in past 3 years and 2 who are sub 9h10m and one Keith Murry from the UK who has a sub 9h20m IM (Hoping that he doesn’t turn up, due to UK restrictions). There are probably 5 Kona Slots. I have ranked the top 30, looking at their IM PB and their best swim, Bike and Run to create a perfect PB composite. I think I am about 6th, if I take what I believe I can do on a perfect day.

You done that manually, or via a script?
That’s good work :+1:t3:

Didn’t realise you were a US citizen :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
Always assumed you were a Brit :man_shrugging:t4:

Thing is, those composites aren’t Lanza specific, are they?
Them kit might be weak like kittens in the hills, but
strong on flats (like me)
They may melt in the heat (like me)
They may hate sea swimming (like me)
Wind could be their nemesis (I’m okay with wind)

I have no idea why IM has me as US citizen, I will contact them to get is corrected

I did this manually. I would love to write a script to do this. It wasn’t too bad, took a couple of hours

Did you use EnduranceData or the other site (tri-something?)

Absolutely, most of the PBs are Barcelona, Texas and Copenhagen, so potentially optimistic. My estimate of my own performance is also based on a flat course. Even so anyone who does 4:40 on a flat course is a very good cyclist.

For me to KQ is possible, but don’t see it as an easy entry

I used ObsTri

Yeah put Spoons and those climbs and he will destroy them :muscle:t3::muscle:t3::muscle:t3:

@Matthew_Spooner Keith has already got a Kona slot, he got rolled from last year, so one less to worry about.

Know him a bit and he swims at the same gym.

Will you be racing @Matthew_Spooner or just executing the best race?

That sheet- are those predicted best times for Lanza, or a generic IM, or something else?

Edit I think you answered it in your next post, they are for a flat course right? So does this mean the order should work for Lanza too?

I am hoping that some of the strong cyclists are not great climbers. However a few have had good Lanza results before so competition will be hard. Its tough to compare Lanza times as wind is such a big factor, 11 hours one year may be a brilliant result but the following year 10 hours is good.

Travel is a bit of a pain, There are 2 direct flights per week from Zurich, so I have to go out on Wednesday and come back the following Wednesday. There is a flight on Sunday, however, I want to go to the awards ceremony

Are they having one?
All online for IMUK - if you get an award, it’s a case of turning up to (what I assume) will be some gazebo to collect it

No quarantine though?

Flights not ideal but I suppose there are worse places to be stuck for a week though

That’s Ryanair so likely to be a nightmare if anything goes wrong, and just the human transported.

I think the necessary tests before and after coming back are about £180.
