Ironman UK 2021

Someone who lives by that bit has gone to look?

Switching sides of the road on that fast bit with crosswinds…?!

As long as your not on a plan x, with a disc, deep front, compact and a 30 on the rear… you ll be fine!

Watching the tour now… attacking wet descents should be left to the pros, but you know some agers are going to get carried away… hopefully not in an ambulance.

It’s a Southerly tomorrow, so that section will be a headwind.

And we’ll get a tailwind from the Flash.

That’s pretty much perfect in my eyes, as it’s a tailwind up golf club and Winchester Way then, too. :+1:t3:

Those wet descents are scary to watch in the tour. Hope the rain holds off on sheephouse til the last rider is through…

Good luck @Poet et al

If your wife gets stuck there is a cinema in the middle of the run course. You’ll be smashing it so she won’t have a chance to watch citizen kane but its a long old day supporting and there’s naff all spectator toilets so worth a look…

Amen.

Ironically it’s the slower, usually less confident riders that will likely get caught in the forecasted thunder storms.

I’m actually going to say a prayer tonight … for the brave 1400…!

First time for a long time.

When fast riders are lapping slow riders on the descent… argh. The only time I’d ever spike my power was to overtake and get a clear road for the descent…

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about.

My Lap 3 will be wet, and I’ll be passing people on their first and/or second lap.

Not looking forwards to this 0240 start :sob:
Gone for the bracket times, as I’d rather be there an hour early than by the skin of my teeth

That is early. IMUK was always early. 7am would be so much better. Better being in good time though… be ready shout on lap three - “COMING THROUGH ON YOUR RIGHT” and no mistake about it!

Hope your sleep isn’t interrupted by hundreds of drunk footy fans singing their lungs out from 10 pm onwards….

(Happened to me in my first IM, Frankfurt. The Saturday evening before Germany beat Argentina 4-0 in the 2010 Workd Cup Qtr final…)

Same for me in 2016, think Germany were playing France in euros or something, might have been a semi?

Cue lots of horn beeping about 11pm to 1am :rage:

What’s this “sleep” of which you speak???

Oh, as a side note, if any of you are expecting me to replicate Spooner’s metronomic marathon splits, you’ve another thing coming

We’ll allow you to be a bit slower on the Park and Chorley road up section….

He MUST have been running to pace?

For that long?!

Impressive.

ALSO…for those who did Helvellyn and heard about it afterwards know how much I adore racing in the rain :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Looks to be dry until midday…

…on the bike at 0730, off it at 1400.
So that’s one full loop of thunderstorms and rain.
Just like my recce. Grim.

@Mungo2 - Looks like a nice day to be supporting at the Black Dog :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain::zap:

Where’s the black dog? I’ll have to look at the route later, will hopefully be near Bolton around 2 as I’m going to stop in Preston for a shower and maybe an easy swim.
