IronMan UK Bolton 2023 - July 2nd

Awsome work again @Mr-me, becoming std .

So you trusted her then? When I told Maryka she was winning, she refused to believe me, and was still convinced she was having to keep going to hold on to 3rd place and the last kona spot.

Amongst al this elite age group talk ( most deserved) spare a thought for Tony Frost
Came from New Zealand to do IMUK, had his bike nicked over there in the last week ( think he got it back)

Timed out by 6-7 mins on the bike from what I can work out?!
I know it’s a slow av speed to beat the cut offs but it’s a tough course on anbeven tougher day

Gutting !

Well done fellas, great racing.

Brilliant work, well done all!

Fast woman from my club came 2nd in her AG, a full hour behind the winner. The times really do show how slow and tough this course is.

Edit: just saw she took her Kona spot.

With 80 ish F finishers and 65 Kona slots, looks like a case of anyone who wants it can go (not in respect to her as she was 2nd).

Let me get this clear.

This fella spent thousands of dollars to do an Ironman in Bolton, rather than Taupo.

mmmmkaay.

He came for the :sun_with_face: weather it’s winter in Taupo :grinning:.

Taupo has the clearest lake water I’ve ever swam in. (effing cold though). Funny you should mention Taupo.

Today is my our 19th anniversary and I proposed to Mrs FP on the shores of Lake Taupo. We rented a motorhome and toured the Nth Island as part of a recce for IMNZ. Was going to do the fancy restaurant thing but honestly, when we had the camper backed up to the lake with a snow topped Mt Ruapehu in the background, couldn’t think of a better setting.

Those roads are absolute shite though, filling loosening stuff!

He absolutely nailed it though, although I’m not sure what happened to Cullen on the run? Fairly sure he’s usually a good runner, guessing he was injured or something :man_shrugging:t2:

He was limping badly … calf / hamstring I’m guessing but a really obvious limp

Huge smile on his face ?!?

The weirdest moment was right at the start.

We arrived early ish, and just missed Tom the champ on his first run past the townhall we could hear the tannoy
2 nd and 3 td runners with bikes went by.

Very quiet … then a guy in full tri gear (30ish)
Just walked past, no limp , no obvious distress
Just out for a Sunday stroll walking very slowly past us…
never saw him again ?! Must have been in the top 10?!
must have been top 10

Or lower…?!

Very strange

I’ve noticed the winning and Top-10 times have been much slower the last few years; at least since Joe won. Increasingly few people under 10h (4 this year!). Is this the lack of a Pro field, and the course is just really hard now? How does it compare to Tenby?

Thought he must have had a problem, still held onto second though!

The course is nails.

Tougher bike than Tenby

Sub 10
Bolton 6
Wales 22 ( some pros )
Barcelona 180?

Pretty sure those were the figures I did put them up on here years ago !

It’s cats and dogs rain all morning now 10 degrees too worse than the wind in that course or maybe not ?!
