Ironman Virtual Racing

It seems they are looking at holding virtual triathlons with swims at some stage - the rule book contains the swim rules as well, including having it verified by a friend. Kona seems to be much more prestigious than the half worlds. I’d be tempted…!

I’ve said elsewhere that I fancy St George, as much for the holiday around that area. Not hugely bothered about Vegas but would look out of curiosity.

Can’t see them offering virtual qualification for that though unless races get cancelled later this year or early next.

Then back to Europe in 2022, I think it will be popular again for the Europeans but less so than Nice.

Yeah, Vegas wasn’t really our thing, but we had a look around out of curiosity and did a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon and a Cirque du Soleil show while we were there and a bit of shopping (at USD1.80/GBP :smiley:)

I managed a 10:59 3k.Tonight that’s a PB for me. Straight onto bike for a 320w avg 40k in 57:30

@Matthew_Spooner still looking good in 2nd :+1:

Good enough for 53rd/103 finishers so far in M45-50 which feels about right for me :grinning:

Actually ran 15:04 for the first leg at lunchtime, then about an hour before the bike/run I also swam 1500m in roughly 27:45, quite choppy conditions.

Looks like I finished the championship series 2nd in my AG and 19th overall

It was hard work, but absolutely delighted.

Edit Maybe not, still subject to VR13 results, I did’t read the small print properly

Yes I saw the post. I’ll give it a miss this time as it is just for the 2020 edition, ie Taupo

Aw, ok…maybe it will roll down to 118th place then. :sweat_smile: 18 is my lucky number after all.

Apparently the link is broken for everyone anyway!

“ Please kindly note that this issue has been aware of by our related team, they have been contacting event directors to fix this issue, please kindly wait for my reply. Thanks for your patience.”

Is it really likely that a world championship event will take place in Taupo this year without athletes having to quarantine for 2 weeks when they arrive???

I believe the new date is TBC but early 2021 is what theyre hoping for.

Date and Location are both TBD. Therefore unlikely to be Taupo

They will not do slot allocation until date and time are confirmed, so I may express and interest.

Interesting, I just read the Waiver. It covers the following juristrictions: Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Ireland, UK and USA

Looks like it will be one of these locations then

Sorry Matt, am I reading that they are saying that’s where they might hold an alternative event?

I can’t see Taupo going ahead even in Feb 21.

:thinking::rofl:

Sounds like someone has given them some poor advice regarding collusion… 🤦🏻 :sweat_smile:

No way it will be Taupo. I am hoping for Weymouth in Summer 2021

Hokay, (onay onay), Im thinking of re-running the Rouvy Kona 70.3 from June as a waypoint in two weeks.

My FTP was lower then, I went 0.79IF/201W on the bike and my legs fell apart on the run.

This time I will lake swim, then drive 30mins home for the bike, and run the same route.

So question: do the same watts now Im stronger on the bike and dont have to run first?

Or do more watts and hope the lower run volume saves the legs? (0.79IF today would be 231W)

Can you run off .79?
Maybe dial it back a bit to sacrifice 5 mins then run 10 mins faster.

Yeah, my brain says do the same power as two months ago, which is now a paltry 0.69 :smiley: Given my half PBs in spring at 1h50 I think a 2h run is feasible winning me by 20mins.

But my heart says…go harder on the bike, it was the 5km run as a substitute swim that knackered my legs last time. Less likely, I suppose.
