Ironman Wales 2022

Was speaking to a local who was out on his bike yesterday & came across a group of triathletes,
one of whom had taken a nasty spill. Police were in attendance.

Quite an IM specific quote in a piece of toilet “art” in this evening’s restaurant. Someone else had clearly thought the same with the “IM” addition on the frame.

have you got a link to share

unfortunately no link ere :sob:

I’m told there’s a few places that will open for general entry on Oct 5th - not verified this myself (was a club mate) but might be worth checking out if anyone wants to give this race a nibble.

From the horses mouth

Looking unlikely for general registration

What’s a TriClub athlete?

Seems to be someone who has a club listed in their profile. Not sure if that club has to be affiliated (paid loads of money)

club has to be an ironman triclub, not sure if it costs but IM are not usually known to give anything away for free. Theres a triclub championships (a way to get loads of athletes at a failing 70.3)

Doesn’t cost anything for triclub, just register your club and have everyone select that club in their profile and the club accrues points for every IM done. Get enough and there are some benefits like racking together.

anyone got a spare code lying around in their inbox :zipper_mouth_face:

Interesting that there are more spots available for this now. Just advertised during the Oceanside 70.3 broadcast. Google “Ironman choose your experience”. £550 plus fees tho!

Yes, saw they mentioned this last week in some promo emails.

Must be a few dropouts considering the last race was 2019!

Yes saw those, they’ve released some extra slots at a few sold out races, basically two levels of ‘VIP’ package (that look a lot like AWA - good rack spot etc).

So I’ve got Wales in the diary, deferred from a few years back and am only doing it for the atmosphere and because it is paid for.

I will in no way be ‘racing’, just looking to get round as comfortably and fast as I can given my circumstances.

I’ve got some bike legs, 260ish FTP at 88kg, managed 4 x 100 mile+ rides this year already off minimal training, no swim stamina at all (wiped out after 500m) and no run legs (can run 10k easy, did a couple of 20k easy early in the year)

10 weeks to train, 2 to taper (poss 1 as won’t be putting in massive weeks)

Can squeeze a long bike and long run most weekends from here apart from last weekend of July. Week hours are hard come by with nothing Mon or Thurs.

How would you carve it up? Running Speed work is out of the question, I’m too fragile!

Losing 4-5kg will most likely happen which will help.
