Ironman Wales 2023

This is in the athlete guide I have just downloaded, which to me reads that there is a local rule that you need your bib on your back during the bike ?

For those of you who have supporters to keep entertained (who might not fully appreciate the IM magic) and are Harry Potter fans, then Dobby’s shrine is nearby, so you’ve got a week to paint your pebble. Just google it. Apparently you are not supposed to leave any socks as bad for the wildlfie/environment (this would only mean something if you are a fan, I had to be told). My wife (fan) will be going :roll_eyes:

I told my kids about this a while back as they’ve been getting into HP lately.

I also kept quiet about any potential trips there this weekend! :joy:

Spain stopped doing that a few years ago.

It’s on the route though isn’t it, so no chance on Sunday?

This came up during the athlete briefing at IM Vitoria last month.

Race director said they required bibs on the bike mainly for the emergency contact/health info written on the back. Should you be involved in an accident then responders can check easily. They were also checking people and completed it at bike check in

It was the same at 70.3 Andorra

Perhaps the decision is down to individual event organisers?

If only there was a Welsh (?) TO on here who could explain it to us :joy::joy::joy:

@fatbuddha ???

I’d rather wear a number on the bike for the sake of 30 seconds.
Just safer innit :facepunch:t3::boom:

So they know where to post the remains after they scrape you out from under a yute?

I’ve started wearing my race belt plus number under my wetsuit.

Dq! :joy:

If you are looking for all the help you can get find out if they still have Iron Worship the evening before the race. Great little church in Tenby can’t remember which one.

Not sure if it’s changed (those who raced last week could comment), but neither Copenhagen nor Elsinor required bike numbers when I did them in 2018 and 2019 (when you also did it) respectively. Mallorca also didn’t in 2021.

Wales did require numbers last year.

lots of people do in the UK, yet in many other countries - Germany notably - you’re not allowed to under their rules.

as for number on the bike leg - it will vary from organiser to organiser and will depend upon local federation rules. WT/ET a/g championship races don’t have athlete numbers for the bike leg but do for the run. Their explanation is that the number on the bike itself - and often on the body - gives enough info on who the athlete is.

Probably the messiest flat lay you’re likely to see :melting_face:
