I still don’t really understand what happened. I’m guessing she hit something and slashed the tyre rendering it unrideable? Such a shame.

Just watched the video of Philipp crossing the line and the two people holding each end of the finish tape didn’t seem to want to let go of it and let her lift it up!
Were they frightened she’d run off with it so they couldn’t reuse it for the men’s race?!

Yes, I think her tyre was damaged beyond repair hence her needing neutral service!

Not sure, she was just off the front of the second chase pack out of the swim, but looked really rough. Maybe illness.

. Innocuous run off bike, not uneven terrain or anything, rolled foot and double 5th metatarsal fracture/DNS.
Have sent grovelling message to IM with Doctors note etc to see if they’ll allow a deferral/entry for 2026.
S’pose I’ll get to track the pro race now….

Fair play to Ironman, already got back to me to say I can race 2026. I delighted they could do this, and even more so that I got an answer within 2 hours of emailing.
It’s a deferral so I won’t even have to pay (I’d imagine by 2026 it will be c$2000 - I paid $1000 back in 2019then Covid/male female split caused multiple deferrals).
No excuses in 2026 as I’ve fully recce’d the course now
