Impressive stuff
He was probably on for a big bonus for breaking the bike course record but it would only stand if he finished🤷♂️
Probably a controversial thing to say, but maybe there’s a better quality of athletes racing pro long course than there was back in the day
More long course races so more athletes racing and more depth of field. Lots of athletes who’ve come up through Olympic development programmes for Tri and individual disciplines, so better technique and more inherent speed
Age grouper beat them all on foot like the young Ozzy in the swim ?
Surely not ?!?
Can’t see anything faster than Langes 5:58 run pace in the app in the first 250 finishers
Could be an anomaly from someone finishing early and crossing the finish line
Ahhh
Good spot
Yeah but apart from that…
I’d agree fields are deeper now, but I don’t think the top guys are any more talented. AB has 2 Golds and that hasn’t helped him; KB isn’t dominating either.
Stick Allen, Scott and LvL on a Tron bike in a big pack and they’d be up there too imho. Stadler and Zack the same until the run at least. The old Kona run times included T2, so they both ran sub 2:40 in Iron War.
I see a lot of similarities in the Basketball GOAT debate. Younger people can’t see past LeBron because he’s been about for 20 years. Yet there are 6 players with a better PPG average and way more NBA Championships to their name.
A deeper field means Lange can ride the whole way in a pack, saving his legs for the run.
Dave Scott and Mark Allen were probably making it up as they went along and blazing a trail. Now there’s four decades of know-how, and I guess know-how-not
I’m looking forward to Lionel’s new utoob vid
Didn’t the athletes in those days not race any (or many) iron distance triathlons?
He certainly talked a good race
Came out of the swim with Cam Wurf, but lost four minutes to him on the bike. Should’ve kept up to have a chance on the run.
not much Post race utube action from the big hitters ( licking theirs wounds)
Looks like my KM pacing strategy at parkrun
(3:30, 3:50, 4:05, 4:15, 4:30 )
