Kona 25

There was a GTN interview on YT last night with Blu but I haven’t watched it yet.

He overcooked his supper the night before, judging by the chunder :face_vomiting:

I thought it looked like he eased up once he was clear of second. Clearly did.

They said on Pro Tri News that once he was in the lead Lange asked his team how much time he could afford to lose per mile and still win

And he still broke the course record.

I know Lange used to get jip for taking an easy ride in the pack, but iirc that’s how most titles were won…on the run!

Stadler in 2005 busted that that theory but it was short lived. Rinny brought us back to Earth

This morning on the turbo I watched the post-race press conference (which is held very soon after they finish) and that was ok to get a feel for what they went through (it’s on the Ironman youtube channel) and also Magnus’ Breakfast with Bob interview from the following morning. He did really well to recover from a bike that really took it out of him during the final hour of riding. I’ve also enjoyed watching some of the reels they’ve posted on instagram - this is a good one of Magnus in the T2 tent. He looks destroyed and amazing that he ran a 2:46 marathon in that state.

I’ve seen the T2 videos as well - very interesting. One thing was noticeable was that Magnus definately took his time, whereas Sam was in and out very quickly.

I really enjoyed Magnus’ post race interview with Bob - gave a real insight into his thought process through the race and what happened. Really mature/cool head to make the decision to back off, and then start the run at what he knew was a sustainable pace and see what happened. Chapeau.

Sounds like Sam’s performance in Nice scared everyone else into thinking they had to be closer on the bike.

LIONel is in YT now

Is he done with Ironman and focussing on 70.3 again?

Maybe he thinks going back to Lactate is the answer.

It was really odd. He said he’d only done HIT sessions and no consistent steady stuff. Said he doesn’t need a coach and he’s coming back in 2yrs.

Rinse and repeat.

God loves a tryer.

He didn’t blub, or get especially angry. That may hit ratings next time as we all tune in for the post car crash race autopsy……

We demand a meltdown and full throwing out the baby with the bathwater!

Interesting rumour on TTH, that many of the favourites for the 35-39 AG got out the swim to find their bikes had punctures/loose saddles/other mechanicals. Seemingly too many to be coincidence is the suggestion

This was always a worry with the original etap, someone nicking the blipbox or batteries would pretty much end the race for them.

** I should point out that I appreciate I’m never going to be at the pointy end of an age group to be targeted :joy:

Just thinking out loud. Do many of your AG competitors work in the travel industry?
