Kona 25

Don’t follow the pro’s enough, but something like

Laidlow
Blu
Lange
Iden
TC :joy:

Although I think it’s probably better for the stronger cyclists so maybe Ditlev instead of Lange unless he can get a draft train!

I predict that Lange will run sub 2:30 - maybe the fastest ever IM run

Ditlev or Lange for the win

Blu could win if he doesnt try to chase Ditlev on the bike. Laidlow will go too hard on the bike again

Me too. Only been here 24hrs. Nice is class. Already feeling a bit gutted they’re not gonna have it here again (although I have been threatening to make this my last ).

Non wetsuit will slow me down considerably but think I’d prefer that than getting cooked in the swim. Bought my swim skin 10 years ago in Kona and only worn it once so will feel pleased to get a bit more of my moneys worth.

@Matthew_Spooner it’d be good to catch up at some point. Gonna swim early tomorrow morning if you’re interested. I’ve sent you a Strava message

@Mr-me just replied on Strava.

You have a namesake on the tracker, that’s a definite smack down

Good luck with final prep. Did this in 2023 and agree - superb venue and course. You’ll have fun, I’m looking forward to the traditional day of tracking/watching coverage/posting bollox as it unfolds.

I’m going Laidlow. He’ll bike hard but lesson learned and power capped. Also it’s a lot easier to ride away from the field up the Col D’Ecre than ride away from a group working together on the Queen K.

Cant see Lange being close enough after the bike, I think KB is a bit bulky for all the climbing. Ditlev and Iden to round out the podium. I remember Iden staying with Brownlee on a roadie with clip ons at the 70.3 WC in Nice, but not sure he’s got all his run form back yet to challenge for the W.

Have you seen him lately? Muscle and bones… think he was 12 yrs old the last time he was so light.

Really enjoyed it as well despite the race not quite going as I’d hoped! Had things been the same with it rotating I’d have certainly gone back given the chance.

(Don’t think I felt like that 2 years ago though )

Slowtwitch (now) seem very complementary about Nice. Lots of comments from AGers there about it being better than Kona to race at

I ‘raced’ Nice in June. It was non wetsuit and I ended up with my fastest ever IM swim. Admittedly that’s a fairly low bar but was a pleasant surprise so you might do better than you think. The Saltwater obviously went some way to compensating for the lack of a wetsuit (and talent)

Good luck to yourself and Mr Spooner. I enjoyed it so much I signed up for another go next year

Don’t forget that the forum’s resident denim shorts wearer is also there.

Good luck all!

I’ve been looking out for him but guessing he’ll be arriving about 3.00am Sunday morning

Thanks. Had my first swim in it this morning and it is crazy buoyant so hopefully that’ll help ease the deficit

According to FB, he’s already in Nice but will still probably miss the swim start……

I somehow doubt he’ll be at the practice swim :joy:

Drivable though, especially the further south you live.

I saw he’d uploaded a run on the prom to Strava.

I love how quickly the water gets proper deep.

The mass start in the olden days was a feckin nightmare - those pebbles are really bad on the feet and the beach drops away really quickly so you had people piling in on top of you

From memory, it was illegal to swim out beyond the first set of buoys on a normal day and they only laid the course markers the night before the race.

Knowing that beach well that is always something I thought would be horrible about that race.
