I’m looking for overtime night shifts but not in the Nick, quite excited !
Thursday May be a struggle but looking forward to Saturday.
Wife has some friends round to watch Strictly so that’s licence for me to watch up stairs on a laptop!
Will watch the swim and first 30 mins of bike Thursday, then a few of us have a night swim at Felixstowe (it’s a full moon apparently).
I should be back for the last 90 mins or so of the bike very awake after that swim! I hope Ryf gets seriously challenged although word is she looks absolutely ripped and ready
I’m guessing you are racing on Thursday Matt? As that’s M50 as well?
Yes, I am racing Thursday M50, quite like the later start as it will be cooling off for the tail of the run.
Sunset is 6:10pm will be pitch dark by 6:30, so anyone taking 11+ hours is in the dark.
Obviously I have not been paying attention. i thought it was all women on Thurs and all men on Saturday. ![]()
Think they split it to get the backlog caught up a bit.
It’ll be an odd race on the Thursday.
Must be about time to start getting some picks in.
- Laura Philipp
- Daniella Ryf
- Anne Haug
- LCB
- Sarah True
Who ya got?
Ryf ![]()
LCB ![]()
Phillips ![]()
I was just about to post the same.
What about top 5 instead though. As you always seem to get a surprise sneaking in there.
- Ryf
- Philip
- Haug
- Lcb
- Bleymhal
Ooh!
Top four are pretty much nailed on ![]()
Why don’t the women implode as much as the men?
Why is their race more “predictable”?
5th? Skye Moench.
I’d guess that in years past the field hasn’t been so deep. So they tend to go out, execute their race and then the cream separates from the milk. More of the guys will get into races and dip a little deep into the well to stay with an overtaking bike pack for example. Amberger said in his BwB interview that he was guilty of that in the past. Ego running away with him and trying to ride with Wurf and Starky after they caught him, then properly dying on the run.
I think the women’s field is getting deeper, and racing and tactics are coming into it a bit more. St G was a fair bit more open, but Ryf is just too good when she’s on form.
That’s my call anyway.

LCB will be in there somewhere, but she did have a complete break from training for a fairly long period, so not sure particularly with the run how she’ll stack up at the back end of the marathon. Based off the PTO race she’s reasonably fit so should be out miles in front of the majority of the FPROs that top 5 should be nailed on, just not sure where.
Astle to squeek in prob 5th - has Kona AG form and swim is improving, by the end of the bike she should be up there.
Josh Amberger. Funny stuff. Not sure if it’s been posted

Watched the Skipper and Wurf Breakfast with Bob episodes earlier - someone must’ve been chopping onions out there as they both got a bit teary when asked about what winning would mean to them (Wurf was quoting his rowing coach who died in the Bali bombings)
Yeah i watched the Wurf and Astle ones today. I think Wurf has really calmed down in the last couple of years. I think he speaks really well now, and comes across as less abrasive.
I want to listen to Skipper, but his voice and his laugh in particular just do my nut in! Same for my slight man crush in Braden Currie. His voice is awful.
Lot of people speak like Skipper round here.
I know he’s not in the least thick, but, hell, listening to him……you feel like wondering which village is missing it’s idiot……
I really hope he podiums, I just get the feeling the fact that someone really takes the swim out and his deficit is behind larger bike packs with more horsepower makes it tough.
5th.
I don’t care admitting it, I’m a big fan of Skipper and he seems to be in the form of his life - overhauling a 15 minute deficit coming out of t2 at iM Wales was mighty impressive, albeit not against the crème de la crème. I think he gets on the podium
Wurf is a funny one. He hasn’t really raced much in the last couple of years has he? Certainly not Ironman. Podium in Majorca last year and won Copenhagen the year before? Didn’t do so well in St George this year though
I’m not a Skipper fan but not a hater. I do like Cam Wurft
