Kona 25

I really want Skipper to do well, even win, but that stupid laugh gets me every time. Be more McNamee and just do the job.

But Skipper has a personality and gives a bit of fun to the sport. Yes, some don’t like it but tri isn’t the most fun to watch and no one outside of the sport gives a shit about it!

McNamee yes just gets on with it and quietly goes about his business but he’s so far off the radar that he just seems to appear at Kona each year

Anyone think the Norwegians may struggle? Lots of big talk. Are they showing the race the respect it deserves, Kona has a habit of smacking big talkers down.

I think they’ll both be on it

I can’t see them struggling, they seem so strong in all areas.

Wishful thinking on my part probably…

Cam said this is the only race he’s actually targeted. He just trained through the others since 2019 as he was concentrating on Ineos.

I’d like to see Skipper do well even if I find him annoying. I just wonder how deep he went in Wales and if that will come back to bite him.

I think Ditlev will go well, he’d be in my top 5.

I’d rather see Iden win than Blum. No real reason, he just seems more likeable. :joy:

If Blu and Iden are duking it out on the run it’s going to feel a bit like the Williams sisters in the Wimbledon final, you suspect that must win at all costs ‘edge’ of a Dave vs Mark will be missing.

Women’s race is really open. I just have a feeling that Fenella will do exceptionally. She’s had a great year

Gustav and Kristian look exceptional. Had a chat with them at Core tent. It’s incredible how much they appear to respect AG athletes.

Just watched the Skipper interview and he was pretty good actually. I realised it’s his laugh that gets me! :man_facepalming:t3:

I think he’ll go well.

Taking from his comments though, it’d be great if it’s a proper windy day. Really break the bike groups up. That’d be ace.

Joe Skipper did the swim too but was not on the results, was not far behind him

The Kawahei to Hawi climb isn’t too bad. I’d describe it as a series of steps before the 6 mile drag from Mahukona State park to Hawi. Unfortunately this section has a headwind too.
Tailwind from Kawahei for about 5 miles, side wind for next bit then headwind on last 6 mile climb, so climbing in aero
Descent is fast; head down, arse up and go for it

So… am I being thick ( again) but will the age group winner actually be “ the winner”

Mass start so first across the line wins ( tracker permissible) like foggy at Bolton in 2019?

That can’t be right ??

Thanks for this. Entered. Tried to go with less popular podium picks (no Ryf and Blum) so that I’m less likely to need the tiebreaker if I win  (too lazy to calculate the overall seconds)

Would love to see either Wurf, Skipper or Lionel win but am expecting to see one of the Norwegians win, or Ditlev

Because of her injury, Lucy is unfancied for the top spot but wouldn’t surprise me to see her do it. If she hadn’t dropped nutrition in Dallas I wonder how well she’d have done.

LCB is the unknown factor, I think it may be binary: win or outside top 10

Couldn’t decide where to put LCB. Had a feeling she’ll be up there swim-bike and blow/drop out and go like Ali even if she’s not fit, but she’s proven at Kona so I really wanted to put her 2nd/3rd.
Feels harsh to leave Matthews at 5 but :man_shrugging:

Iden
Blu
Skipper
Lange
Currie

Seems ever harsher on the men’s side, so many names that will be hoping for top 5. Wanted to place Ditlev in there. Think Iden benefits from more technical course yet picked him anyway.
Men’s race more dependent on conditions and therefore how people race against each other, whereas see females being more like a ITT. Lack of Frodo and Ali might mean initial swim pack doesn’t have strength to push on, and then dependent on winds.

My entry for tri247 competition:

Women

  1. Phillips
  2. Ryf
  3. Haug

Winning time 8h45m16s. Was tempted to put Sarah True as 3, also LCB could smash it but had to leave someone out. Phillips seems on the up, set new 70.3 WR this year and is only 35 years old, so.

Men

  1. Blu
  2. Sanders
  3. Skipper

Winning time 7h49m42s … and have gone with heart rather than head on this one  Head says Blu, Iden, Ditlev like on triratings.
