How did the GF get on, TRO?

I always thought the FPRO field were much more sensible on race day, I wasn’t expecting any blow ups. Particularly after the men showed how not to do it last year.

It’s going to be a hard few days for Lucy and Taylor. A bit of soul searching for Phillip too perhaps?

Lovseth and Matthew’s will be over the moon I’d imagine.

Easy to say in hindsight. Either could have won with a 3h marathon, but only one of them. At that point they were only racing each other.

In hindsight, was Reece right to pull LCB out? I only watched it by scrolling back and skipping through this morning, but she appeared to still be running between the aid stations. Could she still have made the podium? Should she have been encouraged to complete at whatever level?

Or was she actually carrying a problem - injury, illness. And Reece knew she was too far into a hole.

Yes he was right to pull her out, she was overheating and heat injury is not to be under estimated. People who say that the likes of LCB or Knibb should finish to “honour the course” (i.e. many on Slowtwitch) need to give their heads a wobble

LCB was strange in that she’d walk aid stations wobbling all over the show (thought she was going down at one point) then start running and look ok.

Very telling was the Hawi turn when she slowed to a walk to make the turn then just couldn’t pick it up again. Reece pulled her out soon after.

Correct, compassionate decision - not just health, but she still had T100/70.3 WC in play and flogging herself for another 8 miles for no gain while the rest of the field passed her would be madness. LCB would have kept trying to run until collapse, there’s a bit of Brownlee about her in terms of tolerating extreme suffering.

She’s ran through “it” before and suffered the long term recovery, this isn’t the first time she’s decided to pull the plug. We’ll get the debrief in time, but I’m sure we’ll hear it was her choice.

A battle for the ages, and one to learn from, come back stronger.

From ST, run splits :
Løvseth 1:27:25 and 1:28:22

Matthews 1:23:42 and 1:23:41

Has there ever been a negative split marathon at Kona?

Looking further down the top ten Leonie Konczalla has to be celebrating and Sara Svensk, pretty sure neither were expecting top ten.

Natalie Grabow, 80, finishing in 16:45, just amazing.

Had thought while out running. LCB and Taylor find out that not only are they doing the exact same training but that Dan Lorang is just giving them the Fink competitive plan training

And marjolaine pierré trained with LCB in Lanza …came 32nd…

Dan Lorang has a bad day on Saturday that’s for sure. Taylor said in an interview post-race that it didn’t get much better for him as he was then catching two red-eye flights back home.

Kilaue volcano has erupted (again)((bbc weather))

The Island has spoken, and it has said “Fuck off to Nice, Ironman.”
