Yes, I did think I’d seen that, but thought maybe I’d seen it happen so often I was just assuming AB would be injured

This is the video The True Cause of my Injury | Learning to Run Again - YouTube

Theory is scoliosis from breathing to one side and this has had an impact on her running form. I made a mental note because I always breath to one side and my running form is lop sided.

I breathe 2–3-2-3, gets me breathing both sides but more oxygen than purely every 3

I don’t buy that breathing to kne side caused the scoliosis, I think it is much more likely that she breathes to one side because it is easier due to her scoliosis.

I habe a mild C scoliosis and find it easier to breathe to the right. As I have mentioned before I sometimes find myself looking over my right shoulder for traffic behind on my left when running.

It certainly would have an affect on her biomechanics but that scoliosis has likely been there since she was a teenager.

So @Jorgan are you on Faris Al Sultan tomorrow night?:rofl::rofl:

No, he reckons that Pheidippides will come through on the run

Anyone else fancying a crack at 3800m in the pool before close of play tomorrow? I’m wondering about having a second crack at it tomorrow morning with @Adam pace at the back of my mind

My watch GPS is all over the place in the water. Sometimes reads double, sometimes half, sometimes nothing at all. So I’m counting every 50m (you swim 76 of them) with a check of the watch every 4th 50m to make sure approx 3m30 has gone by and not 2m40 or 4m20…

I’m going do a late evening attempt at 3800m in the pool tonight

Should have known not to believe a word said on commentary. They finished when the women were around 830 ish so seemed plausible though

Yeah, I didn’t get that either. Think it was reference to Thomas Fruhwirth in the H/c division who finished in 8.15 - pretty amazing stuff

From what I know competitive swimming won’t be the cause of scoliosis but it can aid its progression, in some cases adding another 5 to 10 degrees to the curve.

isn’t her husband her coach??

Hellriegel has been looking better on the run, but can he hold off Allen? :person_shrugging:

The moment they dropped Speedos & tubs they went WOKE.

At least The Pit will sort them out early on the run.

I have seen conflicting papers on this. Would be interesting to know the prevalence of it in her family. I didn’t know I had one until I was nearly 40.

Dan Lorang now I think

Thats quite a curve to the side she has! Are they suggesting they only picked up the scoliosis recently in that video? I see a physio biased chiropractor pretty regularly. If that was something I was suffering from I reckon she would have spotted that without the x ray. I’ll ask her if I remember next time.

Obviously alot of things dependent but surely most people have more dominant sides when it comes to running? I know I had a much weaker side in my legs which caused a running injury. Being right/left footed/handed for example when playing sports like football is probably going to increase that. @pacha the looking over the shoulder thing I’d personally suggest would be just due to using the dominant side, no?

Yeh, I think we have to differentiate between normal everyday swimming and competitive swimming. I found out a few years ago that my spine looks like that of a gymnasts from swimming a lot of butterfly in my youth. The edges of a few vertebra look almost chipped off or worn down, thankfully this was not the cause of my pain and my orthopaedic doctor found it amusing.

I don’t think it has anything to with being my dominant side. My spine has C shaped scoliosis and I think that is why I can rotate further and more easily to the right. The vertebrae joints will be shaped differently due to the curve. My brother is right handed and prefers rotating left, weirdo!

ETA: I played a lot of football, as a result my non-dominant leg is stronger. This is normal in football.
