I’m having another crack tomorrow
Tail firmly between my legs atm - 1:45 pace per 100 felt sustainable - my goggles were hurting my face though!

Just watched a short post race interview with Daniela. Basically said it just wasn’t her day. Goes on to mention that she put in the training, felt really good and prepared, but just couldn’t deliver. Said she doesn’t have an answer as to why it didn’t work out and that’s the most worrying aspect of yesterday. Overall she seemed to be in good spirits though.
Anyone seen the video of the female AGer collapsing at the line then crawling over it?
Wrong wetsuit?
I’m keen for @Matthew_Spooner to head over to IMJ now.
He had some serious “ biff “ on there a few years back.
People paying £500 plus then announcing they had a year to learn to swim… cranks, some of them did well, some are fools ( and his money are soon… you know the rest)
IIRC Someone said sub 10 was impossible unless you could swim 60 mins or something g like that ?!
crawling across the line would be a DQ in a WT event
I’ve just logged in there “I’m having chest pains when running can someone recommend a new HRM”
every time I log in I’m shocked by the stupidity of them
by sorting that right leg out…
correct…
With the supinating foot
you have to come on my courses…
the whole leg is compensating for something…i’ve not watched her closely before, so don’t know how much it differs from previously…
gutsy athlete…looked extremely awkward…
How is LIONel’s leg/limp these days?t
LCB needs #hydroice
on the plus side, there is a consistency of terminology which allows swimmers to move from lane to lane and club to club and gives developing coaches confidence that they at least have one model (if incomplete) to work to…
I know, I missed out. Ive generally ended up with bland rent a ed’s who blindly follow the script. I even missed out on the HPCP by not getting Rob who really would have been a good person to chat to. My friend was nearly “referred” on his L2 because he didn’t follow the script for his 6 linked swim sessions and started questioning why sculling was a worthwhile drill, then proceeded to bring science backed work from Maglischo but was pushed away rather than it opening up a good debate as to why this drill is believed to help, or not and discuss the scientific work of Councilman and later adapted and corrected by Maglischo.
I do sound like Im anti Swimsmooth sometimes, I’m not, I just question some of their beliefs and think a lot of it is about creating a USP rather than sound coaching principles. I like that they cornered a market early and their business model is good, most of their front crawl technique advice is spot on, you cant get it too wrong especially when working with AoS though. I even like they admitted there is no one method and not everyone fits into the same box, although they just added a couple of extra boxes rather than accepting everyone is an individual (again a business decision in my view). My problem is that its a bit cult like, either you are “Swimsmooth” or you don’t know what you are talking about in many areas of the tri world.
In small business good is almost always good enough, time and effort getting better has to be justified by increased revenue. I can see why they’d reject an academic discussion and why it would be very frustrating.
Swimsmooth is about being good but it’s really selling a fixed method attached to the brand. No reason to change.
Whereas TrainerRoad is about selling improvement, and is not tied to a method so they can flex.
Pros and cons to both models imo. SS can Keep It Simple, TR can change to what’s the latest science. SS can’t easily adapt to better, TR can’t resist the whimsy of the mob,
no that wasn’t Swimsmooth, that was a coaching course (not all educators are created equal unfortunately) You’d expect when learning to be a coach that discussion would be facilitated for the betterment of all, it is in some respects depending how lucky you are with the tutors, but again there’s a curriculum that needs to be taught and a very short period of time to get through it so typically its not encouraged in my experiences. Its probably changed a bit since I did my L2 but we literally had a couple of hours on “swimming” reading through some notes and watching some videos SS put together (same for bike and run) and there’s usually a lot of experience int he room to get discusions going to learn from. To be fair the L3 HPCP is far better (you have a lot more time and a lot less rigidity of curriculum now) and its not just BTF, similar on every course I’ve been on, SE L2, British Weightlifting L2, S&C , all the safeguarding courses etc. all run to tight schedules and with little freedom to deviate. I’ve always said basic material is good, much needed and has always been well put together, but you learn more through shared experiences. On the HPCP we used to take in videos of our coaching and open up on them (you’ve got to be prepared for that )
I know JC is all for critical thinking and getting the person thinking for themselves. I did miss out as the only time I see him on a course was exam day unfortunately butits why i always have chats offline with him about things
Oh wow, I totally misread that. Apologies.
I thought it was the swimsmooth coaching levels you were referring to.
Somebody shoot me down.
Can I be the first to say where did Soldaro come from?
Hamburg was great but not that great, finishing 19 min behind Phillips:
00:54:38 04:35:09 03:00:20 08:36:41
Wish I hadn’t started looking. The Collins Cup results too. Everyone who’s anyone is winning 3h33 ish, she’s 3h46.
