Kona 26

Think I’d have Laidlaw on the podium instead of Iden.

Findlay might be a dark horse if those 3 batter each other out of it again.

Yeah, debated Laidlaw. He’s a boom or bust kinda racer.

Findlay, Kat, lots of others who could do well. Knibb is easier to predict on womens side I reckon.

What an end to the woman’s :flushed_face:

Mens race. Wow. Sub8 for the top 10 (ish?) :exploding_head:

Probably not a perfect fast day either, yes it was cooler but the wind looked strong?

Same as every year, I got as far as men’s T2 and then couldn’t fight off the sleep so missed all the run course drama.

Just catching up with the SlowTwitch write-ups, reckon someone got their AI to smash out those race reports and they are bland as, considering the drama that must have been unfolding in both mens and especially women’s run

One nice thing that happened last night, we had ordered Tesco delivery and it came at about 9pm

Making small talk on the doorstep, the guy asked if we were having a nice evening. I said “just watching TV”

“oh yeah, what are you watching, Strictly?”

(Eh? Do I look like someone who watches Strictly? Micro-aggression right there)

“No, the ironman work champs” I replied, probably with a touch more frost than was really necessary.

expected a blank look, but strike me down, he rolled up his trouser leg to show a massive IM Wales tat complete with a red dragon, and said he’s planning Austria next year. So we ended up chatting for about 5 minutes :man_shrugging:t2:

Wow. Watched it all this morning (blame jet-lag).

Spoilers

Did not have Luis to come top 5, and even at T2/early run thought it was perfectly setting up for Blu to run through. I know he does it nearly every training block and works for him, but have to question if he didn’t leave his run legs in those 40km training runs last week.

Then the women’s :exploding_head: could only see Knibb winning pre-race and during, but what drama. Nice surprise from Kat, clearly her Achilles have improved as didn’t expect top-10 from her after Nice 70.3.

Watched the swim with the fam, who are just about remembering what a triathlon is - “don’t you remember sleeping in a travel cot under a dressing table in a hotel room in Calella, or hanging about on the Puerto del Carmen strip until almost midnight? No I don’t, I wasn’t even 12 months old! Fair enough. “
Watched from just before T2 almost to the end but fell asleep before all the chaos played out. Just watched the key moments and wow!
Reignited some enthusiasm for some tri action, now if I can just get back to running more than 2k without my lungs exploding….

I did the same. Walked down to the corner shop this morning thinking “if I could sort this back ache, neck pain, asthma, find a swimming pool nearby and solve my general lack of enthusiasm for anything… Oh feck it, don’t worry about it”

:joy:

So many pro’s ended up walking or DNF, that meltdown from Lovseth was epic, shows how hard they’re pushing themselves.

I don’t feel so bad about my off-days after seeing them!

Surprised to hear that Lovseth after being on her back three times, eventually walked that final km in about 14 minutes for 8th place!

Imagine the scenes if they’d been racing the fabled Outlaw of 2013

Just finished catching up after falling asleep at 10.45pm!

Epic couple of races and glad Lovseth in particular was able to finish and bag that Pro Series money.

Not sure where best to put it but inspired by some of the commentary on the race, I’ve just watched some YouTube videos on past run “collapses”. I’d seen the Julie Moss and Welch/Ingraham ones before but the PNF in 1995 was new to me. I swear that volunteer looked like he took her out with a right hook!

It does doesn’t it. Looks like he completely socks her.

“She’s down, PNF’s hitting the wall”

No shit
