Paul Huddle’s voice crack for the win.
Of course she’d be done for littering now; finishing without her stuff.

The PNF one, the commentators said it wasn’t far from where the implosion happened this weekend, but she’s 4 miles out there when it starts! Does well to get to where she does!
If Solveig got the penalty she should have for slotting in, in front of Hannah Berry she could have had a few minutes to get fuelled up, cool down a bit, etc. She may have won?
It is quite poetic that Knibb and Lovseth’s fortunes were reversed almost to perfection.
Meanwhile in Camp LCB I’m sure they’re 'searching for clues’ as BS used to put it. It’s a real shame as her 2023 win was iconic. I’m struggling to think of anyone else who won Kona gun-to-tape; maybe Dave Scott in 1980.
One big annoyance ( after saying the coverage had improved greatly). Those flipping electric unicycle they use on the course, or more precisely the idiots riding them. When Solveig eventually stopped, one appeared to run into the back of her. ( he was that close he couldn’t stop in time) Then minutes later when she fell over, she hit her head on a camera being carried by one.
What the hell are they doing riding that close to these athletes? You could get the same picture from 5 meters away. ![]()
But yeah, enjoyed the coverage. I just have to accept it’s American. There will always be a “transition/gap to the leader/podium” sponsored by *****
Or even worse, the Maurten Momentum Index ![]()

I did the same
Sketched out a plan for the next three months, and fiddled about with it for two days so far - if I get through that then…mebbe.
Yeah, there was a clip of one of them crashing into Philip I think it was as she left T1 and knocked her bike forward as he fell off. I appreciate they aren’t the easiest to control especially if you are carrying a heavy camera but hang back a bit further.
Also just getting in the way for the run overtakes through the aid stations. An absolute hazard!
Strategic bbq/chainsaw juggling parties on the roadside could perturb or at least hospitalise some of them.
Problem is, despite the cost, all the big Mdots sell out pretty quickly.

I was reading something the other day that once you’ve been hit by heat stroke / exhaustion that you become less tolerant to heat. I also think that these athletes are actually “racing” for 7:50 - 8:30hrs and are pushing boundaries between success and failure. The levels they now race at, whilst equipment makes up some of it, its still another level and they must be pushing the limits and going over the edge too often, too early. Maybe the increase in bike gaps means there’s no free ride in the train as well these days, adding early fatigue?

I went for a swim yesterday, might consider a run today, but only considering it ![]()
Alan Couzens recons we can all get to Kona in 3 years of we buy his book (and train 40hrs a week no doubt)
Given that it costs upwards of 12000 Euro/Dollar/Pound to Qualify and then Race in Kona, the biggest barrier is no longer performance, the depth of your wallet is probably as important.
I was half reading something about the impact of endurance races and I’m sure it was the impact it had on your organs and kidneys in particular.
They usually recover though given the rest.

Wasn’t it Tommy Zaferes who had to effectively retire after a heat episode in a race? And Jonny B was never quite the same after Cozumel
Average pro dnf rate is 5-9% & was 20-22% this year so must have been tough conditions. My mate DNF’d (to heat) and Age Grouper DNF rate was higher than average but not at extreme outliers.

He should consider his manner.
Humidity was high this year due to the early rain, so that cant have helped. Plus the uphill swim looked tough, even LCB only went mid 51! and she’s usually in the 48/49’s.
LCB is a professional athlete; a DNF is no pay-cheque. I know they all ‘race to win’ but two DNFs for the same reason is not commensurate with her ‘responsibilities’. I also wonder if being coached by your husband and having him stalk you on-course is not conducive to HTFU sometimes; there needs to be more separation of church & state.
