If I’m honest, I’d remembered the question, but not how the thread went. When I added the YouTube clip.

But it’s funnier this way.

Or just have a cafe stop and incur the wrath of poet :joy:

I am all for a café stop but a few if the guys I ride with do my head in with it. They will stop get a cooked breakfast or massive sandwich, then order a cake. It’s way too long a stop for me.

This works, and is indeed obligatory, in a 400k Audax.

Partly why I stopped group rides, especially in winter as I’d be borderline hypothermia when I started again.

club rides are shit, unless you have no family life.

Went out with a couple of mates 7am once, got home not long after 10, had done an easy 50miles. Changed trip to Greenwich Park, had lunch, walking through Greenwich at about 1:30pm and bumped into a couple of club mates just returning home. they met at 8am and had done 60miles. Its Ok they as they hadn’t even had a coffee stop, that was where they were going now!

Maybe they started at 5am; this was the end of their second 2.5h ride.

mad how slow a group ends up when you have 10 people in it, except proper chainies in midweek when people are forced to go a bit faster due to fading light.

On a ride that long I am happier for a bit more food and multiple stops (250km is furthest I have cycled) but I am on about a 65-90km weekend ride.

ETA: Mrs A says I need to treat it as socialising and not get annoyed. But surely we can ride at 30+kmh, stop only as long as a coffee and teacake (or similar) requires and then scoot off again AND be social.

Takes a bit of effort, but I love getting out early in the summer if doing a long ride. First 100 miler I ever did we left at 6am, and pulled into a cafe just as they were opening at 9am after 50 miles. The look on there faces when they found out where we had come from was a picture!

I used to go for a 3 hour ride and still be home in time to take the kids to junior parkrun! :joy:
