In hindsight can understand triathlon being male dominant in participation, but still slightly surprised to see IMUK is 1750:250. Is it normally so far skewed?
Probably some interesting side issues from this, regarding reasons why, if governing bodies need to address barriers to female participation or if its just a case of less want to, and thoughts on qualification standards etc
I think cycling is the issue. How many females do you see out riding on the roads on bicycles? when I see a female on a road bike, I almost feel compelled to comment.
Now, swimming & running participation is way higher.
I thought this was going to be about Forum members tbh. Historically, in the heyday of TT (mid-late naughties) there were quite a few female contributors here. This appears to have really tailed-off in the last 5 years or so. Why? Does it mirror participation in general?
Facebook.
Middle aged women LOVE Facebook.
Also - open water swimming?
I’d say there’s more females at my ow swim venue than males. The median age also appears higher than cycling or running.
