I’m keen to walk the Wainwright C2C at some point in the future.
I grew up in Richmond, which is on the route and we always saw loads of C2Cers going through.

I should clarify the one I mentioned was cycling but the Wainwright walk is possible on my agenda at some point.
Same here - we could make it a TT outing
I actually set off to do it once aged about 24 , zero planning, caught the train up to Whitehaven from Derby after work on a whim on a Friday evening, walked through the night, only got as far as Windermere then thought stuff this for a game of soldiers caught the train home on Saturday morning.
Hadn’t thought about that for years actually. Would like to think I’d put a little more homework in next time.
Ha I’ve made that mistake mixing up the C2C bike ride and Wainright’s C2C a few times before. The trail/hike/walk route is awesome. Lakes, Dales, NY Moors. I’ve also done the Pennine Way but I prefer the C2C as it has more to see and 30% shorter lol
Looks like the Moorsbus service has partially resumed so my possible adventure might be doable, the service I want only runs on a Sunday or BH though but not a problem. Will need to look at O\S maps, as once I start there isn’t a great deal of options for mid-point refuelling without a signifcant diversion.
Lyke Wake Walk?
ETA: Nevermind just scrolled up and remembered the previous comments, that you’re thinking a cycling trip.
Looking at those bus routes the one that stands out to me would be Guisborough to Helmsley as a lovely 40km run adventure and bus back.
I’ve MTB the Lyke Wake route but would like to walk/run it one day, but requires some support with drop offs ± a few route recce’s.
This one is that bus to Sutton Bank and then run back to Chop Gate where I’d leave my car. Possibly upto 30k though but could potentially stop at High Paradise Farm but that’s probably about 10k if I follow the Cleveland Way or the road route.
Edit: some of it might not be public track but no physical barriers I think.
Still waiting for Whorlton Bridge to reopen for that part of the Teesdale way but it’s running late.
Eff dat. We did that at school.
Talking of which - in yesterday’s Grauniad
Pretty ambitious for a school to take on? For kids, average teachers, and organisation planning to take a group
It was 1996.
Just got in the minibus over to the arse end of Blakey, backpacks on; walk through the night. And day. And night.
Get your coffin pin badge at the end.
I see @Matthew_Spooner is doing an adventure from the source to the mouth of the Rhein, over 3 days iirc. That’s quite a lot a day!
He’s gonna be a bit stinky by the time he gets to that conference
Oh right didn’t realise he had anything planned for the end of it!

Do do Instablah.
He put it on another thread a few days ago, about 1000km’s
I took the train for the last 150km as I didn’t fancy arriving at 1am. Did about 820km in 2.5 days
Was a fun ride. Black Forest was lovely. Majority of the ride on cycle paths - some great, others pretty rough, but was nice not having to worry about cars
Rhine has some lovely parts - Bingen to Koblenz was a highlight. After Koblenz the route to Bonn and Dussledorf was as all industrial, loads of chemical plants
Good TCR practice. I did around 12 hours per day rather than 15 hours I will do on TCR
Great riding, but not sure this belongs in the “Mini adventures” thread!
Sounds mega, fab to hear the TCR is still a goal.
