@stenard also reading that Boston might lower the number of entries for 2021, think there was 32k this year but might be reducing that. Need to see in September really.
Would make it a bit harder to qualify.

I’m guessing the numbers grow nearer the cutoffs, so fingers crossed it’s still enough. Lower numbers, if I got in, wouldn’t bother me!
Vitoria already wasnt going ahead, but the situation with the flights for my gf and I were still unclear. BA have officially cancelled the return leg flight today, and so we can now get a full refund.
We’d mainly paid with avois anyway, but at least we get these back in full now, plus the small cash portion, rather than vouchers which have an expiry date.
Only a return trip to Shannon with my mates for a golf weekend still pending now. That was the weekend after Vitoria.
JUST FUCKIN CANCEL 2020 ALREADY.
Oh, wrong thread.
As suspected, the Newport Marathon that was postponed until Oct has now been kicked to Apr 2021. The wording below doesn’t bode well for IM Wales either.
Dear Runners,
We can today confirm that the 2020 ABP Newport Wales Marathon, 10K, scheduled for 25 October 2020 will be postponed to a new date of Sunday 18 April 2021.
Chief Executive, Matt Newman, explains the decision.
‘We have been closely monitoring the situation surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak and the guidance issued by the Government and it is now clear that it will not be possible to stage an event of this scale in the autumn.
We would expect the Welsh Government to make further announcements in the coming months on a gradual return to a full sporting calendar and although lockdown restrictions have recently been eased in Wales, we understand there is no possibility of thousands of runners and spectators gathering safely in Newport on 25 October.
We are also conscious of the inter-dependency on various service providers for events of this size, including the availability of medical support services, volunteers, emergency services, transport and accommodation.
Having spent a significant amount of time talking with our sponsors, charity partners, Local Government and other key stakeholders, we have no choice but to make this difficult decision and have decided to communicate this now, to provide clarity to all’.
There are a number of options available to runners who are registered for the Marathon, 10K or Family Mile. Scroll down to see these in more detail, along with answers to a number of Frequently Asked Questions.
The Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon, scheduled for the 4 October has also been postponed. If you were registered for the race you will receive a separate communication. The Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run is currently scheduled for 15 November 2020 and we will update runners if anything changes.
We thank you for your understanding in these difficult circumstances. Click ‘read more’ below to read our statement in full - which includes details on our plans around the safe return to events and the launch of some innovative new initiatives planned over the coming weeks including virtual races and a new membership scheme whilst we are all missing the buzz of major events.
Weird i don’t have any communication from them at all. I entered Cardiff Half on a ‘double’ ticket for the two events.
I only got the mail a few mins before posting this, so they they might be sending them out in waves.
I’ve just got a message from Cardiff.
That’s postponed to 28th March 2021.
Actually works better for the double if i was so inclined. Half in late march and mara a few weeks later. But i don’t even know if i can be bothered with it or not now. May change in the winter i guess, but the thought of becoming a slave to the watch again for a few months isnn’t providing me with much appeal right now.
I’m feeling a bit the same mate. Only thing is, I tend to have my early road season set now. Bramley 20 miler in mid Feb, Winchester 10k late Feb, and it has been Reading HM but this year was Newport. Once Easter is over, I’m pretty much done with road running, at least race wise.
I think if I can get some decent winter trail events in the bag, that might set me up but starting again from just training with no races and then to get back into the speed/tempo/long merry-go-round could be difficult.
I’ve still got Escape from Meriden alive, not sure whether it will go ahead but struggling to think about training for that, really don’t want to go up in distance that much to potentially be sitting on my arse all weekend not running/walking.
The nature of the event is all about self-isolation but I guess the start may be an issue, unless they start it in waves.
So Weymouth is the only UK branded Mdot left now. Registration still open. Amazingly
Wales has pissed a few off, auto deferal but if you dont want that its standard policy so 25% refund or transfer to an open EU 2020 event with admin fee. Me I’m happy, hotel transferred booking for free til next year also
Yeah I’ve had no issues with any of the events I’ve entered this year - I had no plans in the calendar for 2021. So has made little difference
I looked at Weymouth a few weeks ago out of curiosity and they weren’t taking entries so it looks like they’ve re-opened them.
Maybe they think they can run it, perhaps with reduced numbers, it’s tier 3 pricing I think.
Yeah 265 plus 10%
Going up to 295 shortly.
I guess if there is any possibility it could go ahead it’ll probably sell out
I saw that about it going up, perhaps it’s near T4 pricing.
Given their refund policy I’ll be surprised if many people sign up before August though?
Yeah, as much as I’d like a race, I don’t need another one rolling into September next year
Could be worth a punt like you say closer to the time
You don’t need to increase training much to do a half either, just keep ticking away on Zwift and some running, with a longer session every couple of weeks. Then if it’s looking good have a small focus.
Problem is the swim with pools closed for now, but open water is an option.
If it does start to look up though I think a few people will jump in early August and chance it, worst case they might get deferred to next year or another race, so if you’ve not got much on next September it could be a safer gamble (wouldn’t be as good for the Wales crowd)
Hmm, runs off to check diary etc
How big is that list?! Talking 140.6
The problem with any triathlon this year, is swim training. No one knows when pools will be open, and OW isn’t convenient or cheap for most people.
The guy running the Fan Dance race still hasn’t made an announcement, and it’s held first 2 weekends in July. Wales is practically full lockdown still ffs 🤷
