So being valid until Feb-22 isn’t much different from Sep-21 then given the lack of races in Europe over the winter.
You basically have an embarrassment of riches!
that’s cos he’s half Swiss now!
Thats certainly a new development. Do you have any further info on its validity? Like people have questioned, is this just for use in EMEA? Any other restrictions? You could maybe do Bahrain and Dubai 70.3’s over the 2021/22 winter?
Yeah, that’s new!
Far better than the way a good few of us got screwed over by utter lack of any flexibility with Copenhagen!
I have sent a mail to Ironman France to understand the terms of the voucher
Switzerland 70.3 binned again now.
No refund on bike rental deposits for Ventoux but will transfer for me or friend/family with no time limit.
No refund on flights but 12-month voucher.
Looks like I’ll have to go next year!
Ironman Italy canx today.
I was partly hoping it would go ahead as I was thinking of doing it next year. Will be essentially full now.
So for 2021 there are going to be very few Ironman slots available at any races. I also worry that the Ironman organisation may suffer longer term damage that may negatively impact the sport.
There is going to be room for grass roots organisers next year and beyond to make a mark, but I am sure many of them are also suffering massively.
many grass roots organisers are part time - they have full time jobs and try to manage the demands of that, family and putting on events. but there are a few who rely on their events to bring income and those are the ones that are suffering so much so that some have closed their events businesses and gone back into full time employment. I’m not sure we’ll see a large number of new organisers for a couple of years until the Covid crisis is either over or better managed, and 2021 might continue to be events light.
Their cash flow is going to be down next year with so many rolling over.
It’s also going to be difficult to generate new races.
Unless they ask the event cities for 10% more slots to sell, for example.
I think an added issue for race organisers is the potential reduction in field sizes if they have to run their events with some form of social distancing. If that puts races below the break-even point with a full field then they’ll have to put up their entry fees and people already complain that races are too expensive.
Covid might also give the NIMBYs another argument to use if they don’t like the disruption that the races bring, as seems to have been the case at Weymouth
Haha, yes I’ve overlooked the actual virus causing reduced fields
I have just got up in my defence
Whilst not tri obviously, but our organising of cycling races is certainly stopped until the covid secure requirements are gone. It’s all just so much added effort and hassle for what is already a very marginal activity in terms of return, I think we’ll see a serious reduction in organisers and events, the hassle level is too high for those doing it to support the sport, and the commercial too big a risk.
not far wrong
What do people rate the chances of parkrun starting up again before 2021 as?
I reckon the first ParkRun to run will be absolutely mobbed and it’ll be a nightmare for the organisers to maintain any sort of covid-compliance.
Less than 10% chance
