yes the road from penshurst back to Hever had loose stones the year I did it and that wasnt the worst part
My son, when he was dinky, did the kids triathlon at Hever. I was allowed into transition to help him. I vividly recall his skinny little body, shivering, with a horribly black duck poo sliding down his face.
I have swim in that lake twice and it isn’t actually so bad. Castle Howard, though … wow, I am pretty sure I could have stood up and run faster in that water.
Great events. Loved the bike ride at Howard.
Was very ill after Hever. The Bastion in 2014 it was 24hrs later it came on and i was literally doubled up in agony in bed…24hrs later, like nothing had happened. It had rained all week though and judging by every case Ive heard of since its also after rain (2015 was a big issue with 100’s of kids falling ill)
I think that was before they did compulsory water tests. the lake is river fed and if there’s a lot of rain wash off from livestock pastures that can be the cause.
and if anyone’s going to Hever this September, I’m Chief TO so me and the team will be there to oversee matters.
Yes 2015 was when it all kicked off with London clubs threatening boycotts unless they sorted themselves out and got TE certificated. I was still a chair at the time. I won 2 entries to Gauntlet in 2016 though and Simon once of TT got the 24hr lurgy then also. Again it had rained all week.
Reminds me of a lovely occasion at ‘Tough Guy’ some years ago.
Wading through a dark brown river waist deep to nearly fall over something. Reach down, expecting a branch to be met with something ‘fleshy’.
Thinking someone had passed out I called out out to the Marshall…
He replied: “don’t worry, it’s just a dead cow. We were meant to remove it and only remembered this week.”
Hadn’t even realised it was open. How about Cork, but a bit of a journey.
I think that was the last time I raced there. We had our club champs at the race, and loads got ill. Me included. I’d raced there about 4 times before and not had a problem to be fair.
Got an AWA email off Ironman today saying there’s a priority entry for a small number of places at Hamburg or Frankfurt next week. Also seems to include a small number at Bolton & Nice.
Looks like the following have plenty of slots left. Finland, Cork, Thun, Vichy as they all just say open. Finland & Cork are the same weekend.
Lanzarote 70.3 officially cancelled and auto transferred to 2021.
Sounds like both races in Tallinn will go ahead next week, Ironman will breath a sigh of relief if they do.
Hmm, noticed Greece 70.3 had closed this morning so messaged them, sounds like an announcement on Monday so I’m guessing it’s not going ahead either. So, Helvellyn tomorrow is probably it, unless I fancy Turkey or Portugal.
It looks like Les Sables 70.3 is going ahead tomorrow. Triathlon seems very much back on the agenda in France despite increasing numbers.
Anyone signed up for the Crystal Palace Triathlon?
Went for a swim at the pool for the first time last night and the main 50m pool isn’t going to be open until March next year as they’ve apparently found some structural issues with it.
They’re using the 25m training pool for public swimming but its tiny and with social distancing, I can’t see how it will go ahead.
No news from the organisers though I’d imagine they’ll turn it into a duathlon if they don’t want to refund people.
I coach there! CPNSC has spring a leak be lucky if it ever reopens! I wouldn’t hold out much hope of the adult race, but maybe get the kids running as that is largely run in the training pool. We still ain’t running junior sessions though so pretty much think its unlikely which puts the club in jeopardy as the race funds the very cheap membership.
For anyone still booked onto any triathlons in the next few weeks in the UK, I wonder what this latest development on banning gatherings of 6 or more I s going to do…
Yeah, not looking good.
Organised sporting events excluded.
Assume that includes good old amateur triathlons but could be more confusion if they’re primarily trying to avoid stopping professional sports once more.
Oops. Duplicating stuff from other thread, soz.
Quite a lot of confusion and uncertainty creeping back into my thoughts, organisers may feel that they can go ahead but the tightening of rules will make the powers that be a bit twitchy and permissions from owners and councils may be withdrawn.
