Momentous event cancellation and lack of refund

It’s only for the Insta crowd Jeff.

tbf US races are very expensive by comparison to ours. London Marathon is about £35 and even more expensive marathons in the UK are around £50-£70.

When I did NYC marathon I think it was something like $280 or maybe even £ and that’s before you add on what an expensive place it is to visit!

Yes, Chicago wasn’t cheap but Boston was a bit less, I think US entries are a bit cheaper.

Boston itself seemed very expensive when I was looking for accommodation.

TBH I think London is an anomaly, even a decent TT is about 20 quid now on an open road.

London Marathon is 125 quid if you’re comparing it to the US.

Just did a quick Google and even for locals NYC is £185 at current exchange rates.

I know london is good value but I don’t think many UK events go much higher.

Great north I gather is a bit of a rip off and Run for All seem to hide behind being all about the charity to justify being a bit of a rip off but I rarely spend more then £50 on a big event and there’s many for much less than £20 and even £10 going with local club races.

I think Berlin 2019 was about £80 if I remember rightly but Berlin as a city is amazing value for money.

Ironman have postponed Oceanside 70.3 until October, usually their season opener.

Gather it’s more down to local restrictions in California, I think others will follow despite their hopes to get them on, but probably down to state restrictions.

The entry requirements for fell races are quite random. There are some big serious ALs like Ennerdale where they don’t ask for any experience, and less serious races (IMHO) like Y3P and Edale Skyline where you need a couple of races :man_shrugging:

Coming from a fellrunning background to triathlon I was amazed that I could jump into doing a Middle as my second tri after only doing a pool sprint. I felt the need to query the RO a couple of times about it

Just got this from UTMB, you still need the points but no lottery required. We come back from a surfing holiday on 22nd Aug.

Reluctant as I am to spend any money in France, it’s tempting!

Great news! There are still spots available to participate in the UTMB® Mont-Blanc races, so don’t miss your chance to join us at the start line this summer.

After the first two registration phases, the event is more than 75% sold out. Still, we are looking forward to meeting the rest of the runners who benefit from having a place reserved for them in 2022 and 2023.

To help you make your choice, please find below the remaining spots for each race:

** UTMB® : 2%*
** OCC : 14%*
** CCC : 22%*
** TDS® : 52%*
** PTL® : 70%*
** MCC* : 44%*
** YCC* : 31%*

** No lottery. First come, first served.*

Clearly a lot of people think this year is risky.

Yes, it’s crazy, I’ve done quite a few of the lakes classics but not in the last few years. I think they’re probably trying to stop the insta crowd who like to stop and take a photo every few miles and walk most of it.

might as well have a crack at the PTL then

Yeah looks like 2022/23 are a lock and they’ve realised that there is a massive hole in the operating budget for 21. I’ll probably skip it, as I have The Plague ultra the weekend before our holiday as well.

I got the impression that if you did sign up my guaranteed place next year was still available as well but not sure.

I’ve got a busy summer, although a shorter race would be an option but it’s a lot of cost with the travel and hotels etc, plus I can’t see me actually running anytime soon :slightly_frowning_face:

You’ll get there Jeff, patience isn’t the runner’s strong point!

I’ve gone so far as reactivating my UTMB account. Mrs FP said we could cancel the UK holiday, which I don’t want to do.

We come back on Saturday 22nd, which would mean unloading the car and straight to the airport, more or less.

Is it not drivable for you?

I think that’s cheating and you’d need a pretty serious 4x4 wouldn’t you?

I was thinking about that. i would need a decent car (or hire one).

I imagine that would be a good 15hrs from Winchester?

You could split it up with a stay north of Paris?

Probably could but at that point, we’re eating time and the best way could be to fly?

I’m in two minds about the whole thing. The logistics can be gotten over but the uncertainty could be adding stress I don’t need. There are only limited places, I’d be surprised if they weren’t taken up in a flash.
