We had a committee meeting about the 4 races we put on last night.
Duathlon end of this month - non-starter (looking to move to Sept/Oct)
OW Tri in May - probably a bit sketchy still
Pool based tri in July - possible but will council/pool be up for it even if regs allow.
OW Tri in Sept - optimistic for that one.
Looking like we’ll bin the pool tri and move the OW to that date instead as more likely to get permission/Covid safe outdoors.
Its like deja vu but we know better this year, still hasnt stopped the “it will be fine” mob of the facebooks , but lets be realistic IM is not happening in the UK this year and I doubt much will. Half of Europe is now going into a 3rd wave also, although we can hope the vaccines may protect us a little BoJo isnt going to risk opening up wholesale whilst the EU struggles
Our club have cancelled the sprint and standard races but still planning to do the 70.3 in late July. It’s low numbers of around 220 and quite rural so hopefully will go ahead, even if it’s wave starts or something.
I should add that the sprint and standard are usually mid May and mid June.
Wow, that’s some going.
…will be the ones losing their shit later this year ![]()
there is already wholesale whinging about refunds on some of the IMJ spinoff sites. Apparently IM have also challenged a number of chargebacks and won. I guess they have finally realised what people are doing. I imagine quite a few more cases of money being returned to them from people that thought they’d got a refund.
I’d signed up for Southport Tri last year, it’s due to go ahead mid May
What did Marco from Trepoya say? Good Luck
SEE YOU THERE!!!
I cannot wait.
The lake is large, closed roads, right next to the sea…I can’t see it being a problem for 400 people
Celtman organisers have emailed to recommit to putting the race on 12th June. Small field, middle of nowhere, so I’m optimistic but realistic. Fingers crossed it might be one of the only LD tris to go ahead in the UK this year.
new guidelines today from the BTF for return to play - usual caveat that things could change depending on what HMGov decide.
BUT news - the 6 week swim period before competition has been now been changed to 4 weeks.
Looks like Ironman are hedging their bets for the 70.3 WC this year being a mostly American affair, I gather most of the races over there are getting 100-200 slots for it, so they get some kind of an event on.
Although some are the WFT extra slots to try and get more women there. Still not going to be great if their borders are largely closed.
ETU Duathlon is up in the air as it’s supposed to be 2nd July in Targu Mures. Current travel restrictions are making it doubtful.
I was on a World Triathlon webinar yesterday about return to play and currently all WT and ET events are planned to run, and are being organised, but with contingencies in place to allow for a changing landscape on travel. local situations etc. Protocols are well planned and in place to allow events to happen but whether they will is still open to question.
Thanks @fatbuddha i think the headache will be if the UK travel restrictions are maintained until the end of June then logistically getting to an event to race on the 2nd July is going to be a challenge.
yep - travel is the biggest headache frankly. It’s not just affecting age groupers (elites are OK under travel regs) but also us TOs, and other support people. We’d like to do some Euro events later this summer and have applied but we’ll just have to see if we’re allowed to go.
Looks like RunThrough have opened up registration for a few events for those based in the North West
Yeah - RunNorthWest are doing theirs, too.

I’ll be marshalling at the Alderley Trail Race in the summer
Trinity Triathlon cancelled for second year, its juniors only but probably one of the best London area tri’s. Was due to go ahead on 27th June.
That’s cancelled a long way out and was scheduled after the potential end of social distancing rules.
