Momentous event cancellation and lack of refund

I think this time last year most people thought things would be back to normal within 3 months or so.

12 months on things are still looking a bit sketchy over the next 6 months, especially for anything involving any sort of overseas travel.

I’m not sure my trip to Maastricht will happen in August.

With a bit of luck America in October might be alright. Depends on how comfortable I feel.

wrt overseas travel I wouldn’t want to be on one of the first flights. I was out with my BA pilot friend a few weeks back & he hasn’t been on a simulator since July '20 :joy:

If I go to Holland I’ll probably use the ferry or tunnel :joy:

Men’s lineup in that Texas 70.3 you were looks good.

Skipper, Sanders and Kanute - should be a good race

Although nothing about refunds??!
Which it seems like people have been getting :triumph::scream:

I’m not sure people have had refunds from ironman. I guess a few got away with chargebacks before they started contesting them.

Cant find it on the Facebook page now IMClub have started spamming it.

But screenshots from “Emily” at IMUK are there with a link to an Active refund page?

Anyway, it’s science.
How dare you dispute me.

Im waiting for the “influencers” discount code to come out next. “If its good enough for Kipchoge” … .really does he actually think one of the worlds greatest marathon runners is actually fuelling for a 2hr event an using some random off the shelf product and its nothing to do with money  He’ll be telling me next that that the guy that is sponsored by On-Running didnt actually wear blacked out Nike cheat shoes

Yes, bit of a shame I couldn’t go, would be interesting to the see the LIONel up close. I think Joe seemed to like the flat bike course, and conditions don’t sound too bad. It got abandoned halfway through the race in 2019 because of a storm that came through.

Boston marathon announced earlier that they are still planning to open entries soon, they’ve also said there’s an option to take out entry insurance but it doesn’t cover anything related to Covid, e.g. organisers cancel or you have to isolate or fail a test.

It also suggests people might have to have up to 2 negative tests regardless of vaccination status but doesn’t give any more details like who pays for them etc. or if it’s just cheap LFT tests.

It’s also a semi-rolling start and the buses out of Boston to the start will be rolling and it sounds like as soon as you get off the bus you start fairly soon, could be pretty stiff if you’ve been on a bus for 30 minutes or so!

I was looking earlier today. Still no info on 2022 entry windows. I really don’t want to commit to October.

Skipper seems on good form but he did pull out of the Dubai race a few weeks ago. I guess the wind can be an issue on the bike

The US seems to be pretty LFT for stuff with lots of free tests in different situations, so it’s probably those.

My QT will expire after this years race and I’m not sure I’d be running a quick marathon before 2022 entries open, which then starts to push it to 2023 and beyond assuming I can get a QT.

I can put my name down and there’s always a chance I won’t get in anyway.

Ta, that’s what I thought it was likely to be, fairly quick turnaround as well and I’m sure they could live with a few false negatives, just depends on what happens with a false positive.

Anyway, a long way off yet but I read even California are hoping to lift most restrictions in June.

I guess that’s my point. I wouldn’t be 100% sure about that, given they’re running a reduced field this year. There’s a chance they’d extend the window further I’d have thought, to compensate, but that’s what would be really handy to have clarity on, especially for us overseas.

My December 2019 time would have normally qualified me for this April (2021) so I’m hoping they don’t make April 2022 the normal window. I really can’t see how they can. If they open registration in September as normal, how are most people going to have run times during 2020 or 2021?

Thats my thinking anyway. But it would be nice to have it confirmed. Having clarity I can just focus on trying to get in in 12 months time would be much more preferable on a number of levels

Apologies, I think I misread your original point. Yes, knowing the qualifying window for 2022 would be useful for you and you’d hope your Q race would be included.

I actually think someone else was asking a very similar question. And there’ll still be limited races between now and October this year for people to qualify.

Woohoo, with last years races being cancelled and Ironman extending the AWA from 2019 I’ve got another keyring today.

Makes it all worthwhile :joy:
