Momentous event cancellation and lack of refund

Good luck, that water is going to be brutal though!

Just been on the Celtman website. What a cool race; and also I’ve discovered a new piece of kit that I never knew I needed. The heatseeker vest

Yup I’ve got an Orca Heatseeker vest and I use it in most swims I’m so soft.

I understand it helps ward off the cold, but do you notice any extra buoyancy?

I don’t notice any difference to be honest.

They are a great bit of kit, I had to order mine from NZ when they first came out as I struggle in cold water.

5 of our local parkruns have now got clearance to resume, that’s good because if others drag there heels there will be more options. A couple are also really small so not many numbers that will descend on them.

Edit: make that 5 have got clearance, think there’s only 1 outstanding.

Got a feeling they are at something like 85%+ now, and hopefully things will improve in London soon.

parkrun have posted on their FB/tweeted ‘tomorrow is going to be a good day’ so you’d assume that’s a positive news to come hint.

I guess the problem now is many permissions are tied to the June 21st restrictions lifting so will that throw the cat amongst the pigeons…

Looks like Kalmar has now been cancelled

I think Powerman Alsdorf got cancelled yesterday as well.

Maastricht 70.3 still seem confident but have moved the finish away from the market square, I think there’s more distancing in the new place and I doubt there’ll be a finish line crowd.

I’m starting to wonder if Endure 24 will happen?

I’ve emailed Ironman Holland asking if there’s any options about the 70.3 on 1st August if our travel is still restricted.

Not holding my breath but worth a go.

@stenard did you see this yesterday, if you are still thinking of Boston 2022? I think you are covered, but it is Easter Monday.

BOSTON— Registration for the 2022 Boston Marathon will take place over five days, November 8–November 12, 2021. The 126th Boston Marathon, scheduled to take place on Monday, April 18, 2022, will be the first race held on the traditional Patriots’ Day date since 2019.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) will use the same registration process for qualified runners as it used for the 2021 race, allowing any athlete who has achieved a currently valid Boston Marathon qualifying time to submit a registration application between November 8-12, 2021 through the B.A.A.’s online platform, Athletes’ Village. Registration is not first come, first served and applications will be accepted until 5:00PM ET on Friday, November 12. The qualifying window began on September 1, 2019 and will close at 5:00PM ET on Friday, November 12. Qualifiers may submit an application at any point during the registration window.

Hmm, had a reply from Ironman Holland saying I can defer if I can send some kind of evidence I’m not allowed to travel, although I read something earlier in the week that the Dutch aren’t particularly keen on Brits going there.

I’m going to see what this announcement says tomorrow about fully vaccinated people not having to quarantine from August, from amber countries. The race is 1st August so it could cover me.

Thanks. That’s quite good actually. A November registration window versus the usual September is another couple of months to see how things are evolving. It also allows me to get my feet under the table at the new job before talking with them about holiday! And Easter might actually be preferable … less time off from the new place needed in that case (although maybe the OH wont see it that way if I’m missing a family weekend!)

Easter in Boston, with the marathon thrown in as well, that has to be a nice (long) weekend city break.

But that’s only if they let us in.
For the USA, we can put them on the green list all we like, but they’ve got a Presidential Edict which bans anyone who’s been in the UK within the past 14 days from entering the USA :person_shrugging:t3:

August was more for my trip to Holland. But, yes I need that lifting before going to America in October. Fairly sure they’ve done it with Europe so hopefully we’ll sort it soon.

I guess if we lift the restriction they probably will as well, there’s a lot of tourism cash being lost by both economies.

A lot of tit-for-tat.

I had to sack off my summer race in France as we couldn’t afford to self-isolate on our return :disappointed_relieved:.

They were very good with me when I cancelled last year  & I took out their insurance this time which means that I only “lose” €25.

Hopefully next year will be 3rd time lucky & in the meantime I can have a few months off IM training .
