Even in Bolton, there is no surge in hospitalisation as a result of this new variant.
A few more people, yes, but it’s not a surge, nor do 18 people class as “overwhelming” the NHS.
They are cracking on with vaccinations up there, now they’ve got more pop-up centres, so it’s all good news.
I’m in a similar situation to @funkster & @Symes on the Frankfurt thread but my plans were to race long in France in mid-July.
As well as the training commitment & it’s selfish affect on those I live with, my wife is unable to take/cancel hols as easily as myself so I’m probably going to sack it off for the second year running & we’ll enjoy a wet holiday in the UK.
Similar for me with Holland in August. The bonus I have is that it’s a 70.3 so not a huge training commitment and I have a backup local race the same weekend.
I’m going to try and email them this weekend and see what the situation is with deferral, I don’t really want to isolate for 10 days just to do a race.
At least I can forget America for a couple more months.
Yes, I’m still planning to do the Celtman this Sat although it feels a bit surreal at the moment. What with Covid and all the times I’ve considered binning it. But the die is cast and I’m gonna go do it.
My mate says I’m number 50 (Ellis) but I don’t know where the list is. It’s a TT start charging into 10-11 degree water, that’s what I’m least looking forward to!
Edit:- I believe you’re allowed one person in T1 to help you out. I’m sure you’ve seen the videos of people stood in buckets of hottish water as their helpers pour water from watering cans down their wettie. I wore extra clothes & gave it to my parents at the end of Loch Maree once I was warmed up.
Cheers. I’m planning to bundle myself into a down jacket temporarily once the wettie is off and I will down some hot tea, all whilst trying not to take too long in T1. Just long enough to be confident hypothermia is not a danger and I can cycle safely in a straight line. I did the race in 2013 and although bodily I was fine running out of the water my face was so cold I couldn’t speak to my supporters in T1 - my jaw muscles were numb. In photos my face, hands and feet were bright red with cold. And we call this fun
