Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

any Nike vouchers knocking about? Thinking i may go for it and try a pair of tempo nexts.

Check out Running shoes for Men | KELLER SPORTS [UK] as some of their prices seem to provide a decent saving over Nike’s even with a big voucher discount.

The only issues I saw people complaining about is returns, so I guess if you are trying a new model with plans to possibly to return them, then the official site is best.

Yes good call. Think I’ve used Keller before.

Looks like I can only get the white ones :face_vomiting:. But they are Ā£30 cheaper. Though I’ll have to check postage as well.

Postage and returns are free, if you sign up for a £7.99 annual Premium account.
The also promise no customs or VAT to pay.

Oh, and @adam, the KellerX stock Satisfy running apparel :see_no_evil::rofl:
(I’m in London first week Sep, so keen to get to Brown’s and try some of it on)

So….

Tonight, used a pair of carbon shoes in anger (albeit Brooks, not Nike).

Some observations:

  1. I didn’t feel any difference on the steep uphills.
  2. Downhill / flats / slight uphill, I didn’t feel like I was moving fast, but I noticeably pulled away from other runners.
  3. My quads are crushed. To be fair, that could be from the steep downhills.

Is this consistent?

  1. Yes
  2. I feel quicker in Nikes, but never pull away from anyone :see_no_evil:
  3. Definitely not. That’s probably the hills

Agree. One of the biggest benefits of the Nike super shoes is how fresh your legs feel after. But that comes from the ZoomX (/pebax) foam, not the carbon plate.

Fundamentally, it’s the combination of the ZoomX and the carbon plate that makes them such good shoes. Both pebax and carbon plates have existed for ages in running shoes as far as I understand. But in isolation both bits of tech had drawbacks.

25% off some Nike things. Anything Next% seems to be excluded. I’m just getting some more Flex Stride 2-in-1 shorts in an outrageously hot pink shade.

Leopard print and 180 quid they are not.

Yep, i agree with all of the above.

I ran my long MP session on Monday, which was the first time i’ve run for more than 90 mins on the tarmac in, oh i don’t know at least a year, probably more like 2+. I wore the super shoes for this reason, and whuilst my legs were a tad sore the next day, they were miles better than i’d expected. So much so, i was down the track last night running 12 x 1 min at pretty much the pace that i’d expect. Legs needed a couple of reps to properly warm up, but i was good to go.

I strongly believe that had i been in normal shoes i’d have been struggling for a good couple of days.

I must say that whilst clumpy & noisey, the Tempo Next also seems to allow me cruise along at a lower effort for a given pace; legs also feeling unaffected.

This is exactly my experience with them. Faster pace for same effort compared to other shoes.

yeah i think i have to suck it up and buy some of these. my Peg 36s are on their last 100kms now anyway, so due for replacement.
Maybe wait for next week’s pay to come in though!!

@leahnp - did you order the ASICS direct from them with the 90 day returns policy?

I’m interested.
Like you said, the Metaspeed Edge/Sky seem to be sold out everywhere and they confuse me, even after reading reviews :see_no_evil::rofl:

I’m a forefoot runner who now only does parkrun, which has a few hills, which you mentioned the ASICS is good on

I got mine from Sportshoes as I had a discount code. As I described they are stiffer and feel like a racing flat. After wearing Nikes it took a while to get used to the feeling

i bit the bullet and bought some Tempo Nexts. Got them from NIke in case i don’t get on with them, as that stupid air bubble thing concerns me! But we shall see. Hoping to go for a long run in Sunday, so unfortunately they won’t be here in time for that. But could potentially delay that run until midweek when the shoes arrive, and just do a MLR on the weekend instead. We shall see.

Based on my experience, I wouldn’t plan a long run as your first outing in them; I got hot spots on my heels. Someone else here got blisters too. I’ve been putting vaseline on my heels until they are ā€˜broken in’.

did you send them back, or did the shoe settle in after a few runs then?

I asume that’s a typo, and you mean don’t run long in them

edit … just seen your edit.

I had no issues around the heels. I only get very minor blisters on the ends of my next from smallest toes. However my feet are fairly battle hardened from football.
