Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

For anyone who can be bothered: Benno Nigg teeter-totter I haven’t read full study but I believe he measured efficiency improvements at 6%. not 4% :astonished:

This I think is right.

I’m never going to get the full benefit unless I change my running style back to heel striking

So those of us who have a forefoot strike, we shouldn’t bother?

That’s why the Nike is better suited to me compared to the Saucony Endorphin Pro

I’m forefoot and that’s one of the reasons I just didn’t get on with the Next%, as there feels as if there is nothing under the forefoot.

The bounce on these are incredible, plus, let us be honest…at mile 10 (HM) or 20 (Mara), are you really still forefoot striking?
Or has everything gone out of the window simply to maintain your pace?

They are deffo worth it!

From hearing Nigg talk about their study, it does seem heel strikers get the biggest benefit. His view is that the foam difference is how light it is. It allows them to stack it up, without a weight penaly, to increase the ‘teeter-totter’ effect, which moves you through to toe off faster than a non-plated version of the shoe. His view is that the frequency (12hz) of the rebound of the foam cannot account the improved efficiency.

Just did a 5km TT in mine (after five Brewdog cans last night and a 15km cycling TT)…

…not amazing, but 18:45, which is just over a minute quicker than eight weeks ago in the 4% and I’ve done zero speedwork since then :speak_no_evil:

ETA: they do cause me a blister in the exact spot I thought they would :sob::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::sob:

10 miler this morning

They feel like a combo of the 4% and the Next
Stable but fast.
Does feel like there’s nothing to the upper.

Legs tired from yesterday’s brick, but didn’t feel too fatigued even as the run went on

10 miles which is my longest run since May
09:15 run / 0:44 walk
7:27 pace
124HR

it seems a simple question to me…

From my understanding and attendance at workshops it was the motion of planting the mid foot then rolling through to the forefoot and pushing off with the extension of the ankle?

What’s the baby Alpha? Was that a first release?
