+Potter in 7th. Is that the Paris 2024 team in 3rd, 5th, 7th?
I agree. After each 180 that was shown she was hammering to rejoin the group and it looked like Spivery was telling to keep taking her turn. Obviously it’s not a bike power issue as the repeated surges that this type of course in the WTCS circuit requires. If she keeps at it she will obvioulsy get it. Glad to see Larmonth’s demise was overstated, great race from her. Her, Kingma and Duffy could really makes things tough in Tokyo.
Great race by Yee, loved the grin on his face when he knew he had it.
Petting. Those were the days. Probably a crime now.
@Hammerer he did the ducking as he couldn’t run. Definitely heavy petting going on between various WT athletes but not during the race.
Any smoking though
Rachel Klamer definitely is
Disappointed with the lack of ‘running bombs’ off the pontoon for lap 2 of the swim…
Which is an indication of how poor the coaching is…
How poor what or whose coaching is?
“Unfocused” is probably a summary her husband wouldn’t be offended by, given the last year and the one week notice for the ITU race.
I have no insight into coaching but she’s very strong across the disciplines, motivated and enjoying it so he’s doing something right I would suggest. Transitions and technical aspects come across as a complete afterthought, and although I was very critical of these watching Challenge Miami most of the field seemed to be in Wacky Races mode too.
If she does go into ITU/Olympic mode I can’t see why he wouldn’t step aside if a more world class coach was available, so fair point.
they don’t have corners on long distance races?
your focus point would make this unnecessary, but it wouldn’t take much to take a step back a view the broader picture…
They don’t have many tight 180 turns on LD courses, whereas this course had 9 laps of them…
What would make a coach world class?
I know some fantastic L1’s that have taught transitions to 8 year olds that mount better than some elites. The women’s race was a disaster for some. Ali though gave a textbook mount. I actually used a cyclocross coach one morning to demonstrate a great mount / dismount technique.
Knowing a really good sports doctor with ample fridge space usually is a plus
I was just responding to @explorerJC ’s implied criticism of her current coach. I’d imagine there is some at least hypothetical notion of a world class coach out there, in the coaching community. Preferably one without a predilection for doping or sex crimes.
Oh and teaches Fridays at the Walnuts of course.
yes, mainly implied by those who coach world class athletes…but it does beg the question…
yep…but think a little more broadly…
it is perhaps a harsh comment - but when you have one of the most talented and hard working triathletes of the current (or any) generation, a little more time spent on the basics may provide a reasonable pay back…
