Olympic distance sub 2:30?

I had a few standard distance races last month (all 3 within 3 week time period). I compared my data after the first 2 as well to see where I could push it more. My max HR is about 175.

1 - Swim (152), Bike (152), Run (157)
2 - Swim (149), Bike (149), Run (152)
3 - Swim (155), Bike (154), Run (158)

I’d say 3rd race was my best performance, followed by 2 then 1 - so HR doesn’t paint the fully story in my case.

Hmm, fairly consistent across the sports - so to do similar I have to decide what HR I can hold for 2.5hrs. I think my half marathon last year was 160 avg.

Trend for me is generally slighly lower HR for swim and bike compared to the run. Just looking at my last marathon I was holding at 160 but then I conked around 2:20 so result in an average of 157. I know I target high 150s/160 in races < 2:30. Bike is for resting/eating right?

Are you sure 190 is your max HR? Do you have similar results? I have a few outliers that I write off because I know it’s wrong like this 214 from an easy run!

So it does sound like you have a high max - if that was me I’d be trying to hit around 170 for the run. What’s your average HR for 10k all out?

Yeah it would be 170 avg for a 10k pb effort, rising to a peak of just over 180

My 5k Pb was avg 177 peak 190

—Edit—

I want to push harder on the bike, but given my weakness is the run I should really prioritise there if I want to become a better runner and triathlete I suppose.

On the other hand I have nothing to really lose, so maybe I’ll just go all out across the board and see what happens . I’m not very good at being reckless so unlikely I’d actually be able to execute that.

I’d probably say I go 8.5/10 for the swim and bike and whatever I have left on the run! My strategies are rubbish, in a running event - I’m always going off too fast.

Good luck whatever you decide!

I’d be similar to this.

Swim lower slightly, run higher.

Olympic”s are awful. So much pain.

You doing another one ?

Yeah I’m in for London on Aug 8th, but as I hit my goal in my B race Ive switched to long course training.

I’ll aim for a higher stroke rate, consistent power output on the bike then try to drop my run pace by ten seconds or so if I can.

Most of my family will be there so I’d like to perform but the numbers don’t mean anything to them. And I’ll be nowhere near a top ten AG as the field is so much stronger.

Ok, so I have just entered the Eton Dorney Olympic in 5 weeks time, August 29th, and I want to go sub 2:30

I’ve done nothing since the Cotswold Classic so hopefully this will motivate me. Just had a look at @joex time as something to aim for
