Open water swim season starting

An almost 7km swim this morning up & down The Dee.

Definitely a swim of two halves :joy:.

Followed it up with a 5km run off. You can tell my Strava followers are mostly runners because that got more kudos :person_shrugging:.

Or they know you just floated back downstream :man_shrugging:t2::joy:

Good effort that :+1:

Edit: I’ve found a video clip of you from earlier :rofl:

I did use an Equinox Spring Tide to get the upstream CR a few years ago :joy:.

First OW swim at the weekend in nearly 2 years. Can only assume it’s the cause, but breakfast this morning was the first thing I’ve eaten since. Stomach has been doing somersaults since.

4 days later and I’m starting to feel nearly better, stomach still isn’t normal but is getting there.

I took on water in the last 100m of my swim & forced myself to retch it back up there & then much to the disgust of a couple of waiting SUPers :face_vomiting: :grinning:

Apart from a bit of a raw throat this morning I’m tickety-boo :crossed_fingers:

What I’d give to fall into that sea after a days work.

Sad thing is when you live that life 24/7, you really do take it for granted. You really really do.

Anyone have any recommendations for weekend (ideally Sunday) OW swimming venues (open to a one off swimmer) in and around the Haywards Heath area? Happy to drive a bit. I’m coming up empty via Google. I’m there this coming weekend.

The closest reservoir to HH is Ardingly but you can only OW swim there if you’re a member of Mid-Sussex Tri club.

You can swim in the River Ouse at Barcombe Mills near Lewes which isn’t that far away - Barcombe Mills Swimming - Really Wild Swimming

A bit further away is Bewl Bridge reservoir which has OW swimming on Sunday mornings - Open Water Swimming | Wild Swimming in Kent | Bewl Water

Also Weirwood Reservoir near East Grinstead but I can’t get onto their website as my system is saying it’s an insecure connection so not going there!

Alternatively - head to Brighton and the seaside

I wouldn’t swim there out of principle anymore after what they did to Laura at “TriSwim” . Literally let her set up an OW venue, build it up and then pulled the plug and took it in house using all her play book. I guess its just business but a bit like the Leybourne “take over” 15 years ago leaves a sour taste.

We drove across to Dukhan yesterday evening which is on the West coast of Qatar, facing Bahrain.

It’s a shallow sea and we have been there before at different times of year, so I knew the water would be warm, but was entirely unprepared for how hot it was yesterday. The web says water temp was 34C, but I would not be surprised if it was hotter where we were yesterday. Getting in was almost uncomfortable, like putting your face into a hot tub or a bath. I bobbed around for a few minutes - not swimming - just face down looking at the fish - but had to get out after about 5-10 minutes as felt was overheating.

Crazy that the sea can be this hot, I would not have believed it before coming here.

The marine life is not great here but there is a shallow reef at Dukhan and we saw a few purple and yellow angel fish type things

Thanks for these. The open to all options were a bit of a stretch distance wise. If we ultimately relocate to this area in the future then I guess I’ll have to join that tri club. That top one was the only one that was a reasonable distance.

In the end, the OH and daughter got picked up by grandad yesterday morning so I travelled down today. Allowed me a 90 massage last night and then a London based OWS first thing this morning.
