I love it as well, I just wish it was a wee bitty warmer over here

I got in this morning and got out for my neoprene cap. I was quite toasty warm with that on. Makes a big difference.

Luxborough Lakes in Chigwell, coaching for Swim England London, to try and get kids in OW, learn safety, have fun and hopefully sign up for the Regional Champs in July. We got in water with them, not something ive done coaching before, but felt it worked really well. As I was with novices from 11-13, I could talk on their level, demo easier and control group well. We had safety Kayaks with us as well. 16.6c felt chilly , especially after a while as we went in for an hour in the morning and lots of stop start. Ended up swimming 1km and loads of happy kids!

A lot of reports of not very well people after Deva Triathlon on Sunday @Doonhamer. I see the app says there was a sewage overflow on Saturday, with the race early on Sunday. It really is so bad what’s happening to our rivers.

It’s a :poop: situation.

I’ve not personally heard of problems this time but it doesn’t surprise me as it rained heavily in the days before. I’ve said before that it’s fine to swim in if you can pick your day, but if you’ve paid for a race & don’t know of the risks you could find yourself :face_with_thermometer:

Having said that…the summer aquathlons are kicking off again soon & are only Ā£12 which seems great value. I’m away for the first one but - weather depending - I might consider the others.

Putting my TO hat on it sounds like the swim should have been pulled if it was known of the sewage outflow the day before. No doubt waters tests would have been done leading up to the event, and the water met the criteria, but no tests on race morning as they don’t have the ability to do that (unless at a major WT event).

The sewage overflow alert is noted on the app. Stopping at 18:00 the day before. I have no idea when the race would’ve tested. One friend of a friend ended up being diagnoses with Weil’s disease this week - that’s a weird one. Not actually conclusive whether it’s from the Dee.

It wasn’t brilliant the days leading up to the aquathlon I did but I think I’ve got quite a strong digestive system so I was fine.

They should have tested earlier in the week - there’s usually a few days turnaround in tests depending on who does them.

The Chief TO for the event should have insisted on seeing water quality reports in the lead up as between them and the Race/Event Director they will decide if quality is within limits.

614m OW for me today… long intense day at work, knackered… that was enough.

Nice to unwind.

PS Many times on the way to the venue I was driving very slow, a sure indication I was mentally knackered. Also left work 30m late

Shame it was a beautiful evening for it, could have got 3km done if the stars had aligned.

Think the water temp was 20 or 21C btw.. it was toasty.

First OWS swim this morning as a wee father’s day treat to myself. Was slow as hell and felt a struggle - maybe an Indian and a few beers last night was not genius prep - but 1500m feels sufficient to justify a roast later.

Still getting a bit of rubbing in one spot on my neck despite half a stick of bodyglide but I’m now pretty much certain it’s from turning my head rather than rotating my body to breathe on that side as I start to get tired and everything goes to pot form wise.
