Parkrun

Have to say, multisport can come to the rescue here . All 3 of our boys can beat me- one at running, one at biking, one at swimming. But put them all together, possibly I’m still clinging on by my fingernails

Back to Kingston, this morning and almost exactly a minute faster than last week at 24:03. I’ve got a week walking in the Lakes coming up and then I will look at going to 2 runs a week.

Was a tough one today. Was aiming to repeat the 22:00 I achieved with the buggy last week, but I’ve had a cough since Tuesday and not been 100%, it was also quite gusty and I realised early on that was going to be a tall ask.

At 2km I was just about on pace (though the 22 pacer was a fair bit ahead), but then I hit the hill and that caused me to slow a lot more than usual. At this point I realised my lace was undone and was debating stopping. I carried on until a big gust of wind almost blew the blanket off the buggy, so used this as an excuse the pull over to sort the blanket and my lace and start again at a slightly more comfortable pace, for a 23:01.

I’d run 30km in early the part of the week, putting this right up there in terms of a ā€œhigh mileageā€ week by my standards, just need to try and keep up the consistency. Need the weather to stay nice as most of those miles were buggy commutes to the nursery.

Treated the GF to a day out in Blyth today while I did the parkrun :joy: she actually wanted to go to an earth sculpture called Northumberlandia nearby and we had a little look around Blyth.

Was pretty cold and windy coming straight off the North Sea as we were about 20m from it  not the best course I’ve done but would be nicer if it was warm, it was about 2.5 laps with more into the headwind!

Started near the front and put a bit more effort in as there was a narrow pinch point after 500m, after that it was a hard’ish effort. Felt harder than I was going but I don’t think the conditions helped, the cold air had me wheezing for a while afterwards.

Good news was that my knee that was sore yesterday was mostly alright, it’s just a tight quad muscle from last weekend and I’ve been working on it and it has finally started easing.

Just sneaked under 21 minutes, but the lad that was first was >30 seconds down over a fortnight ago so conditions might have been tougher.

Nice touch from AB, a former teacher making it to 500 parkrun’s and volunteering getting presented with a T-shirt.

Any good? I’m sure we’ll check it out soon.

The fact I didn’t know what it was/hadn’t heard of it beyond a road sign suggests it isn’t big enough to achieve their goal ā€œto attract an additional 200,000 visitors a year to Northumberlandā€.

Although also just read it’s struggling under wear and tear from visitors not sticking to paths so maybe they don’t want more :person_shrugging:

It’s not as big as it looks on a map and won’t take long to walk round it, so more if you’re passing really. There was a few signs where people had taken a direct route up it, got a decent view from the top but mostly open fields.

Although it’s classed as the biggest earth sculpture or something there’s a lot more in Northumberland to attract people.

The coast and castles route is possibly more appealing and I saw a sign for it, potentially get a train from Newcastle to Berwick and cycle back.

As per the races thread I just went local today, only 9 seconds off my course PB in the end but perfect conditions and I’m sure the trainers helped. If I’d looked at my watch earlier I’m sure I could have found those seconds.

Closing in on 200 now.

nice result

We did this a few years ago - great route - although I do remember we ended up on the A1 at one point , looked behind and there was a massive truck who didn’t try to take over us but it had caused a massive tailback.

Helped out at the local event this morning but ran the course beforehand.

Also got talking to a woman I went to school with from infants :joy: we’ve been following each other on Strava for a few years but she doesn’t run that much these days and lives fairly close. She was the best female runner in senior school and gave most of the lads a run for their money.

Anyway, decided my short run, marshalling and feeding the birds beforehand had earnt my reward of a peppermint slice :hippopotamus:

Yeah I did Edinburgh today which is just outside of town running across Silverknows Beach. Absolutely savage easterly wind today, probably like that most days here though just off the Firth of Forth.

Guy who was leading it was bloody juggling. Christ knows if he came back in first as I’d been dropped but bloody juggling!! Piss taker

He was probably getting ready for the festival! The wind has been coming off the east coast for a few days and really knocks the temperature.

Ah cheers for that. MrsF and I (and a couple of friends) went up to help celebrate another friends 500th run and 250th volunteer. I wondered if Paul (parkrun founder) might be there as I saw on his insta that he was doing a book signing nearby that morning. So before the start I see him, give him a big old man hug and the first thing he says to me is ā€œis Sharon (MrsF) here?ā€

Bloody cheek!
