For the avoidance of doubt, a thyroid cyst 50 year earlier won’t be a relevant reason to take T.
I very much doubt that too, and if they were the proportion taking it legally would be minute.

not sure if this is Doping/Shoes/Both or some new topic, but a good discussion on the quoted and actual ross tucker thread on super shoes and doping.
good comparison to EPO and swimsuits era. Is it about tim super shoes were put on the banned list, wonder how they would control it, bodysuits were quite easy to ban, no buoyant materials and regulate the length
Might as well add TT bikes, skintight kit, power meters, e-shifters, wetsuits etc etc etc - all relatively new technology (well since the 50s or so) but have played their part in acheiving faster results.
Sure you can try to ban some new tech but you won’t hold everything back.
As always the rules are trying to play catchup with tech. Some things you can control, others should be left as it’s not possible to regress.
that’s essentially what was banned in the pool, they were like thin wetsuits in the end. TT bikes, well could say that they have controlled them, look at the superman position, and new rules regarding “puppy paws” and certain types of bars on the track.
Power meters are interesting discussion, as in swimming they have just allowed the wearing of watches under allowing “recording devices” but were previously banned, but you cant use them as “pacing” devices (ie like a tempo trainer) , a power meter could come under both banners
Super Shoes must be akin to putting fins and paddles on in the water they are that good in some cases?
Certainly an interesting discussion about where to draw the line and “in the spirit of sport”
You can ban fins and paddles, insist on bare feet and hands. But as soon as you allow running shoes, then it becomes subjective where to draw the line.
Ross Tucker has long railed against the supershoe. Can’t argue with his basic point that times have tumbled in recent years and it is not because the athletes are any better than before. But you can’t un-invent the tech and you can’t have everyone running barefoot. He complains that there is no way to know if Kiptum is better than Kipchoge, or are his shoes better? Or is he a ‘better responder’? The better responder argument I find a bit weak, different shoes will always suit different people, to say a shoe shouldn’t be allowed because it makes one person faster but not another is a very difficult position.
His latest posts, sparking my interest, is due to a 5k record being beaten on the way to a 10k record which is madness
I do wonder if there is a way to control as “spirit of sport” and “risk to health” could actually create the required 2 of the 3 AD criteria (im being the devils advocate here, I know they arent substances) as there is growing concerns over the safety of carbon soles as well. Wonder if stack height or some sort of ban on carbon soles etc could be brought in
Madness for sure, although might be some course specific factors?
There is a stack height rule - you can argue that it was set too high as it basically said everything so far is OK just don’t go any higher. But cutting the height would just restart the arms race to find ways of creating the benefit in a lower shoe - now everyone has caught up is there any point?
Ban carbon? What about really stiff plastic? Or some other special material? I agree the current situation is not ideal, just think the genie is out of the bottle.
I don’t know enough about the swimsuit tech to understand how it could be banned successfully. Specific rules on the material allowed and the amount of skin on show? Are men allowed to wear tri-suit type costumes to cover their torso if they wish or are men and women rules different?
I’d rather see a ban on TT bikes. Expensive, unnecessary arms race if ever there was one. Must be a big entry barrier for some who see the money being spent at the front of pack and decide it’s not the sport for them.
I doubt if most of the big bike brands would shed a tear if TT bikes were banned - lots of development cost for not many sales
but once developed, the frames don’t cost much to manufacture…less than $200 about 12 years ago…
I doubt we’ll see many new TT frames for a while, maybe just tweaks, the Giant Trinity, P5 etc. are still good fast frames and I doubt in real terms they’re much slower than something like a Cadex, despite what manufacturers might claim.
Essentially above knee and below navel, women no neck or shoulder cover. No neoprene or material that adds buoyancy, FINA put a tag on acceptable suits. Theres still an arms race in “tech suits” though , costing upwards of £300, and sizing is weird as they are worn so tight ie El Nino is 30 waist in Arena training but Tech Suit would wear a 22 or 24in waist (the size guides tell you this also) and the saying is, “if it takes less than 10 minutes to put your suit on, its too big” El Ninos Mizuno GX Sonic VI suit is an odd material and the water literally bubbles and rolls off, they are probably close to 2 sec / 100 faster than a normal training jammer (on avg 3% performance increase and about 5% drag reduction) . In the US they banned tech suits for Under 14s and NCAA duel meets typically are unsuited although most coaches are against this.
I think this essentially proves that no matter the rules, the manufacturers will find a way to charge a fortune for new shiny things.
unsuited as in erm naked?
No tech suits, so just training style jammers , its about money and even playing fields really
With former Nike ambassador Seb Coe in charge of World Athletic,s I am sure it was just coincidence that the allowed stack height was exactly the same as the Nike 4%.
so cynical…who do you think you are @explorerJC ???
They’ve swapped their thongs by the time they’re piggy-backing?
Mark L’s latest video is all about his ‘journey’ with TRT… I am not keen to click on it to give him $ so if somebody does can they please summarise here…
I watched all his vids
Apart from running a hyrox with water ( what a (unt) there very good.
Similar to you I didn’t watch the trt one, I believe he’s not racing hyrox anymore ?
He got badly trolled when people realised he took steds… who knew!
