The best middleweight boxer of recent times ( I’m a huge fan)
Middleweight limit is just over 11 stone, some top hyroxers are 13-14.5.
That’s different?

yep, i wouldn’t make the weight…
I haven’t made the weight since I was 10years old
I’d make super welter ( or light middle 154 llbs) with a weeks notice.
11 stone is good but I’m a midjit
Male Boxing weights are weird; of the 8 classifications, half of them are sub 61.2kg. We’re talking about adult males here right?
It’s a worldwide sport
Smaller jumps for smaller guys, the USA currently has 13 world champions ( no surprise there ) but Japan has 9, all small fellas, boxing is HUGE in Japan despite most of the big shows being held on Tuesday mornings ?!
Some people only watch lightweight ( 135 lb) and up, and it’s vastly unfair that smaller guys get smaller purses too.
Inoue ( jap) is the most exciting fighter I’ve seen for 15? Years he’s unified two divisions to date
118
122 lbs.
Heavyweight is pretty dire at the moment, light heavy ( 12.5 stone) is my favourite watch.
I think Joe said he paced it appallingly anyway, then was killed by some of the stations - he did the first K in around 3 mins and was doing 4 min k’s by the end so not sure his run at hydrox was particularly representative.
But don’t they put about a stone back on once they start drinking water again?
Run pace is about what you can hold for a half marathon ( each km)
My run pace was 4:55 ish per km av hr for 1 hour 21 was 168.
Yesterday I ran 4:47 pace for 25 kms ( t mill )
Av hr 148.
Compromised running really is very real, he didn’t practice … at all, with practice I’d expect him to run as fast / faster than the elites.
The world champion mentioned him ( Joe) in a seminar in Manchester on hyrox weekend ( £80 a ticket !)
He stated point blank he wouldn’t beat him in a straight run race.
Devin Haney weighed in at 140 lbs ( 10 stone) for his recent WBA title fight with Regis Prograis
His reported rind weight was 165 lb, that is exceptional rehydration but yes lots of them put on near to a stone
Not sure the ticket would be worth £80 for that nugget of kinda obvious information. Did anyone ask him about his PED use, that would have been more interesting?
Lots and lots of speculation about the sheriff
They are going to be subject to drug testing now my Pt talks to him on Instagram sometimes .
Big weight loss recently, about a stone ish
That’s bonkers!
What’s the time interval between weigh in and the fight?
I rowed lightweight in my final year at uni. I lost about 10kg over 6 months to get down to 71kg. Crew average weight was <70kg with maximum individual weight within the crew of 72kg. The whole experience was miserable
Lightweight rowers have to weigh in within an hour of racing, so you see a lot of guys putting on a load of kit and going for a sweat run before weigh in to shift the last bit of weight, but you can’t dehydrate that much without it adversely affecting performance.
If you’re racing in a regatta with multiple rounds, you’ve got to weigh in before each race
On Hyrox, Vernon Kay was talking to Steel from Gladiators about it on his radio show last week. Apparently they’re doing the next London event together.
The Hyrox publicity team must be working overtime at the moment. It seems to be everywhere in the mainstream media at the moment with people raving about it.
I’m sure it’s just a fad and the Insta crowd will have moved on to something else by this time next year
Usually about 36 hours, WBA for example it has to be between 1600-1800.
Ibf had a check weigh in were you can’t put more than 10 lbs on the morning of the fight, you still have another 10 hours or so to rehydrate.
It’s yet another example of why the sport needs ONE Governing body, but that will never happen now as there is far too much cash involved in sanctioning fees.
The reason behind the big time gap is to allow the lining of the brain to rehydrate, and was one of the key factors pointed out ons big study decades ago, this is a good thing but allows people to fight in divisions much smaller than there natural size.
Its an art form and must be very very uncomfortable but the rewards at the top are huge.
The other side is rushing it and being “dead at the weight” were 36 hours wouldn’t be enough to take back on the essential water and nutrients to perform and ultimately losing badly.
Your right it’s mental !
Who knows?
I’ll still be keeping fit and I have plans to do another.
The media is full of crap.
But I’ll hazard a guess if you walked into any gym in the country you wouldn’t be there 10 mins before you saw someone doing wall balls, burpees with a jump or knee to the floor lunges with a sand bag.
I’m following the more “ sensible “ top age groupers on social now( the ones I don’t think use peds and seem normal )
They do train hard ( no surprises there ) but the amount of running they do is more than I expected.
As EJC says the big plus is it’s so spectator friendly for your friends and family.
There was a young bloke training on the astroturf pitch in my local park this morning. I reckon he was probably a Hyrox type. He was (slowly ) running up and down the pitch and doing press-ups and other exercises (and taking selfies) after each lap.
The temperature was in low single figures, but he was training in shorts and no shirt
I mean, he was completely ripped, so who can blame him wanting to show that off, but it still seemed a bit excessive
