errrm - I have a 21min 5k PB at 100kg aged 52 so it’s not beyond possible

I guess this is the problem. Brings them unfairly into the area top x%

Would they have been over 21min without T?

When I was picking my bike up from transition Ironman Swansea last year there where two big ish (muscular) guys laughing about how taking T and how it had made ‘this’ (last year 2024) so much eaiser than previously. They were about 10-15 years younger than myself, Im 52, I struggled with hearing that.

Took a while to come to terms with hearing cheats. Then I realised the top 10 or so times where more than possible, clean (even though Im miles of them as Im sh1t, and wasnt even the best me.) I wonder how many that have not applied themselves just take an easy route. Gut says more in the top 5 - 15% range than the top 10 places

I joked with two guys before a sprint tri recently
They were both struggling with number belts I’m guessing they were tri virgins ?! Put them right on those sliding clip thingys that hold the number on the belt

They were both huge
One mixed race one white

Told them have a good race and the drug testing was at the end for all first time athlete’s… they both started laughing I ran past one of them going no were fast and he beat the other one apparently … they came no were in a race that no one really cares about … is this the same as top age groupers getting to Kona using peds?

I don’t know the answer to that question

This pic isn’t them
They were both much taller … but you catch my drift
Personally as long as there not 55-60 and not getting near podiums … who really cares

Cares… (same with everthing in life if you think about it) no one, but maybe they should

Replace the 55-60 with xx-xx then people should care.

It is okay for me to say I’m not good enough I can do better but that better is still not going to be a podium or top 10 place, despite training to the best of my ability. But then think of someone that is half decent or new to the sport with aspirations and come nowhere. Then it matters, especially if they just give in when they have potential. I think thats what p1sses me off.

For me there are two distinct category’s here the guy in the pic and people who take peds trying to go faster … My first triathlon was 34 years ago this month
In all that time I suspect two people of cheating ( not obvious steroid users having a laugh, they are all so muscular there not getting near top anything and are only there for the insta pictures afterwards ) but fair play there still” cheating”

Both slower than me at one stage to considerably faster in there 40”s
Could have started to take it serious, lost loads of weight, got a coach blah blah … none of that happened they just mysteriously got faster, one very very fast..?!

No evidence just I suspect … neither of them are on tri talk .. lol

Personally I’m pretty sure I have been beaten at hyrox Manchester by a guy who openly uses and flaunts “ enhancements “
How do I feel about that ?
Being honest I think there pretty pathetic

Guy in my old club, looked like a prop forward , but solid muscle, 5ft6 on a good day but must have weighed as much as me. Knocking out 18mins or so for 5k off the bike. Couldnt swim for shit though as he had no shoulder mobility  but still up there and made GB age group worlds, and 70.3 worlds even with a really bad swim. No evidence apart from he looked jacked, looked unnatural, and run wasnt in keeping with his size

I think you have mentioned him before ?
There are exceptions to every rule I guess, how fast would he have been if he lost all that muscle ?!?
I could post a pic here of a guy who ran a 34 min 10 k in the last 12 months
Right age .. 30”s
But just shy of 15 stone and not really tall either, he could just be really really fast and I’m being horrid … I’d bet I’m not though.

This is the sad thing about it imo, the actual cheats bring into question any performance that might be normal, an amazing performance or unusual. Maybe they cheated, maybe they where at the pointy end of the performance bell.

Given the description, not knowing the background, seems suspicious  but who knows.

This is the rub; I can’t help thinking Pog is on the sauce. Same with Bolt.

Although he was in his 40s, the lad that won the world Clydesdale Tri champs was a big unit and an 18 min 5k runner.

I shared an apartment in La Santa with a guy doing IMLZ. I wasn’t. Nothing special about his appearance at all. But he did come for a 60min run with me the day after his race, which seemed odd at the time.
He got pinged for EPO a few months later

There were some big old units taking part in IM Florida when we did it - I entered as a Clydesdale. They were quick on the bike - always remember one huge fella come past me and thinking “my dog, he’s big”. Fortunately they couldn’t run for shit and I won my Clydesdale class…

No idea if it was this forum he’s referring to, but it definitely got a bite didn’t it

I guess his marriage is important, as he wants to wake up with a erection every morning despite his age. The sport is coincidental.

At swim bike event recently I got beat off a middle aged guy who had the same sort of athletic physique as James Corden :man_shrugging:t2:

Not claiming he was doping, just very buoyant and a powerhouse on the pedals.

Maybe he could have run fast too, will never know. Although I’d eat my helmet if he nudged under 20 minutes.

I listened to all of the YT video last night. He’s very articulate and I like his dry and pragmatic sense of humour. The triathlete thing certainly hit a nerve, and rightly so; he’s gone from "Pringles in bed" to “setting Hyrox records on TRT”. His public admission of TRT use means he’s not doing any affiliated sporting events any time soon, without getting bubbled by someone.

It’s all for clicks anyway, so I’m glad if we helped

He could get a TUE. Or maybe he couldn’t.
