PEDs

I long for this day.

Agree, she was saying triathletes are the only people who seem to think they might be able to get one.

It was a throwaway comment in a different discussion, but made me chuckle given its been discussed jokingly here, and think genuinely discussed over on ST.

Try the USA…

It’s the NGB that presents the TUE for AG athletes…not sure our NGB would have the balls to reject one…

although i would be interested to see the outcome of the first transitioning athlete on a course of testosterone

No need, age group testing is non existent so open season as long as you can get the prescription. Worry about getting the TUE when handed the doping control form

That was something I asked. Told there already have been lots TUE issued but didn’t quite get the answer detail I wanted - How much T is enough? 20? 22? 27? Technically still physiological which is all the answer was, but could realistically be 1.5-2x someone else’s endogenous levels.

Enough that you don’t get busted I imagine

But not so much that you get into fights, and hairy in weird places

And here lies a problem. A ‘young man’ with low testosterone but still within the normal range could well find themselves losing to someone transitioning who is on a course of treatment

It’s a potential worry.
However I’d guess it would be overstated. The cis-male still has a lot of other biological advantages from the Y chromosome that go beyond testosterone values.

Hence part of the flaws in the IAAF research when they failed to clearly show testosterone advantage in the Semenya case - smaller differences in T values amongst men or women are not the primary determinant of performance, as compared to the large differences between men and women.

Finally finished that Outside Online article although I’m fairly sure I’ve read it in the past. It’s also very similar to how the Icarus film started out until the Russian labs got rumbled.

Although the article is nearly 20 years old $7500 over 8 months isn’t that huge for people with a vested interest in triathlon for sure. Appreciate bikes didn’t cost £10k then and race fees, but I reckon the people that would be tempted are the competitive types that might be making up for a lack of natural ability but have deep pockets!

Hopefully it’s not a big problem in triathlon, but when you see people doing sub 9 in their 50’s it makes you wonder. And in America I think the anti-aging clinics like the one he visited are probably a bit easier to find than other countries and hopefully the drugs would be clean.

I try not to think of it and generally just race for my own enjoyment than thinking I might win something!

Obviously I’m not insinuating anything ….

Reading the ST thread on AG doping. Not sure whether those folks are totally paranoid or if the situation is as bad (In the US?) as they think. They seem to believe that 30%+ of over 50’s are taking Testosterone supplements - and they are prescribed pretty freely to people over 40, especially to athletes who train a lot, as a result show depressed T levels.

As I understand the thread, taking T and other steroids, has been normalised for older AG athletes, so its not considered in the triathlon community as cheating - which it clearly is

The thread itself is part of the problem, people, who are clean, are reading it and thinking “well if everyone else is doing it, then it is OK for me to do it as well, just to compete on level terms”

If this is likely to be true, Challenge or Ironman need to step up and at some random event test top 10 finishers in every AG. At least a baseline can be established if this is an actual issue.

yep…

my understanding is that it is certainly on the increase (The T taking, bot the testing…)

On the one hand I suspect it is fairly widespread over there, but if the 2 races I did are a barometer they’re either wasting their money or not very good in the first place!

At the full race in Cali there were only 3 sub-10’s, it was a very windy day though, but the winner was about 30 minutes clear in 9:16 and clearly streets ahead. I finished 25th and really should have been well in the top 20 even if I’d just spent less time on the bog and in transition!

Although they could have just been missing at those races.

Connor Benn cleared by the WBC after two positive tests.

They said it was “ eggs” a sad sad day for boxing and world sport in general.

His dad was my favourite ever fighter.

No words really

Open season now, just blame the eggs

He would have to have taken 50 plus a day for “ some time” from a very rare batch/ variety apparently. His two pos tests were months apart?!

The BBB of no control has still revoked his licence, but he can fight abroad.

Comedy at its worst

Can WADA appeal it, or was that from them?

He cleared the bbbofcc tests but then Vada got involved and he popped dirty.

A slightly different test apparently, his team then sent a 276 page document to the WBC

CROOKS!

who surprise surprise today put him back in there rankings ?!

Boxing and testing is a joke, they only test them at certain times unless there VADA enrolled ( many aren’t ) so they know there coming, when they do catch them… they find a tue or just let them off … it’s no yoke pal… sorry!

You summed up my feelings @Mungo2. Boxing is so openly corrupt.
