Well I’m listening to NIN mix today, so I’m hardly the bastion of good taste.
I can honestly only remember doing it once and it wasn’t TOOL! It was before the marathon leg of Tenby LCW in 2017 and I was struggling with whether to attempt it because I hadn’t run in three weeks due to a calf injury.
Pre - during London marathon in 2012. I listened to this Paul Van Dyck essential mix from spring 1997. It’s before he went all out trance so some good breakbeat sounds - nick warren feel to second half. He really drops the hammer about an hr in.
spent the preceding month long runs listening to it as well, including a few runs up and down the Malaga coastline
I wasn’t but one evening found that the on hold music was courtesy of a CD in the answering machine, that night I burned a copy of Fat of the Land and dopped it in hte next day. It took a couple of weeks for anyone phoning in to comment, sadly an account manager called and got Smack My Bitch Up which, funnily enough, they felt was inappropriate.
Wasn’t there a discussion in parliament about it or something along those lines, but if you watch the video right to the end there’s an interesting twist which the bandwagon jumping MPs clearly hadn’t bothered doing.
I’m not sure I’ve ever had a pre race song. I distinctly remember playing this on the Sunday morning in the hotel at Tenby LCW, when I seriously doubted whether I could front up for the marathon.
It’s cheesy, it worked. (if you call a 5.15 finish working )
